Guest guest
Hi, I'm a newbie as well and have been procrastinating getting started. A while ago I got the advice to start with the easysprouter if not some simple mason jars. One more question before I start is the quality of the soil. I'd be doing this for health benefits so what is the best way to ensure that i'd be growing maximally nutritious sprouts? TIA! Guest guest
Alan, One of the beauties of growing sprouts is that you do not need soil -- just water and air and, of course, sprouting seeds. Most people start with alfalfa sprouts -- these are not my favorite, so I don't even bother with them. My favorites are broccoli, radish, fenugreek, lentils, and garlic chive. I grow others as well for variety, but these are my favorites. All add different nutritious elements; all 'round, I'd say broccoli is the most nutritious. If you're just getting started, you might find that your local health food store sells small packets of sprouting seeds, so you can see what you like. Once you are sprouting regularly, you will likely want to purchase by mail/Internet in larger quantities. Once you have these sprouts growing, you might want to try your hand at those that require soil. As you get started, ask other specific questions here. I think you will find that many folks with diverse experiences will be ready with suggestions. And check previous messages as I think you will find many to be still quite timely. Make it a Sprouting Day!
