Lynn,

A quick guess would be that his beta and hibeta are high in those areas and may need to be addressed first or with the 2-5 inhibits. it's a difficult question to answer without seeing an assessment.

You don't want to continue sessions that are giving such side effects. Have you tested other protocols to see which ones may not give these side effects. If I might quote our peerless leader (Pete:-) We train for symptom change...not just changes in brain wave levels.

Strange Reaction with 2-5 downtraining

My 11 year old son has really high delta and theta all around the front of head and at C3 and C4. So I have been training 2-5 down at F3/A1/G/A2/F$ but he gets really activated after 3 sessions. He's edgy, picks on everyone, has no patience, and frustrates really easily. So tried 2-5 at FZ then C3/A1/G/A2/C4. Same problem. His SMR is not low. He really needs a lot of sessions at these sites but I can't live with the side effects. Is there some reward band at F3/x/x/x/F4 that I could try along with the 2-5 down training. Would that be the same at FZ? Has anyone seen this reaction before?Right now I am doing a squash at P3/A1/G/A2/P4 to reduce his total EEG back there. He has the right ratio of alpha to theta but everything is much too high. Lynn

Lynn, you might try the same squash protocol (that you are using at P3///P4: inhibit 2-38?) at F3///F4.

I had the same reaction from a client: inhibiting 2-5 made her really itchy and fidgety, because she had too much HiBeta activity. Making the slow go away only made the fast more dominant. Caught me by surprise at first too.

I'd agree with Rosemary and . I train down all the time at F3 and F4

with (knock on wood) no side-effects (except occasionally a really relaxed

kid, and difficulty staying awake, BUT I can't think of a time I didn't

downtrain the hi-beta simultaneously or did a squash that has been

suggested).

I have watched hi-beta go up at places when a child is becoming relaxed for

the first time in their life (kind of an instant reaction thing), but never

this kind of hours later thing you're seeing.

You might adjust placements to give more control of behaviors at F7 and F8

(or just start on F4 and F8 side first)... Or you might just train over the

central motor strip. Totally agree that we're working with humans and

symptoms, not protocols.

Good luck, Lynn

Hi,

Thanks for the great info. I have tried F3///F4 2-5 down and 22-

38 down and got the same nasty, frustrated reaction. I take the

trainer's practicum in October and I don't know what the ratios of

everything should be at F3 and F4.

At F3 at F4

21uV 22uV

35 34

17 16

10 10

8 8

4 3

These numbers are almost the same as the C3, and C4 numbers

including the L/R reversals. But I don't see the beta or high beta

as really high in relation to everything else. Or is it just the

existence of that much beta and hi beta that is bad?

I have never done a squash on F3///F4 or at C3///C4. I don't know

enough about reducing the EEG in those spots yet. I'm afraid if I

reduce beta it may affect his thinking ability (inexperience showing

through).

The only other really bad thing in the assessment is his alpha is

about half his theta at P4 and I am windowing that in a squash. He

has way too much of everything but alpha in the back. Could too

much of everything in the back come through with a 2-5 squash in the

front?

I have gotten some relief from the edgy, frustrated symptoms at

T3///T4 2-5, 15-38 down, and 11-14 up. Thanks Jane. But again, that

doesn't address the frontal problem and my inexperience there. Do

you see anything there that I am missing? Thanks so much for the

help.

Lynn
