When you guys are talking about stir time, did you stir by hand or stick

Thanks,

Mine was about 5 min. of stirring, both stick and whisk. I wish I would have

timed it, but didn't think to.

Both are as I would have expected.

I haven't checked - I just put the batch inside the curing cabinet the other

night. I'll check on later today when I get home

I finally took out the soap and it really looks like " a green sponge soap "

lol...that's the only way i can describe it. I took pictures also. I think I'm

going to make a tiny batch again just to see if it does it again because I'm

very intrigued at this point...

I think you're right. I just made a second batch again just in case last

night. I checked this morning and dipped my finger really quick and it was like

green pudding still (grapeseed oil).

Think I'll wait until the weekend to actually unmold it.

wow all of the soaps sound like fun. in a weird sort of mad since kind of way. I

was thinking, CAN one actually make soap out of shea?? wasn't someone doing

shea? I thought that she never actually soaponified which is why it was good for

superfatting??

Yes, someone is doing shea! I have never made 100% shea, but know of others

who have and love it. Shea does saponify, but has a good percentage that

does not, so it's probably a very emollient soap. We'll find out!

warning! no one make 100% canola. lol I think it hates me. I have been mixing it

(mostly stick blender on high with a bit of stirring so I don't over heat it)

for half an hour now. It just will not trace.

Currently and throughout a magority of the time It has looked like buttermilk.

that is it. nothing more. I am wondering if it will ever thicken up. I am used

to things tracing in 5 minutes or so. this is really killing me.

Maybe that oil won't trace like you'd traditionally think. As long as the water

and oil aren't separating when you stop stirring it for a minute it should be

good to go.

hopefully you are correct. An hour later I got something that resembled a decent

level of trace and molded it. We will see what happens. It was still a bit runny

and I will be happy if it doesn't come out of the seems of the mold. lol but it

finally thickened some and came to a REALLY light trace. :)

My rice bran oil arrived yesterday. As soon as I'm sure we won't lose electric

I'm gonna make it. This should be fun!

well it took FOREVER to trace but the canola hardened nicely. 24 hours later I

was able to unmold it and my liners pulled right off which like never happens.

Normally I have to freeze soap and slide the liners off without the soap

sticking to it. I sliced it and looks like either creamy havarti, limberger or

other soft cheese but firmer then cream cheese.

as matter of fact i teased and joked with my parents asking if they wanted any

havarti or limburger cheese. (minus the stink)
