Guest guest
Hi Beth, I'd like to participate. I'd love to learn more about the properties of the different oils and give one a try. I do want to let you know that I make my soaps unconventionally though. I don't measure the temps of my oils or lye solution and I usually don't melt/ heat my oils unless they are really hard like coco butter. So if I participate would you like the oil and lye solutions at a certain temp? ~ Trina Sent from my iPhone >
Guest guest
I'm not worried about the temps, so that's fine. If you can stick with the rules listed in the announcement, those are the ones I felt were most important to keep consistent. Guest guest
just a quick question...i made my soaps...and they feel " spongy " . Is that a normal result from making a single oil soap with very high moisturizing property? ________________________________ From: Beth Byrne <bthbyrne@...> 1TLCSoaps Sent: Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:25 PM Subject: Single Oil Soap Swap  Reminder: It's time to make your soap if you haven't yet. Cheryl has hers made and wrapped! We have 22 oils represented, so please send in 22 soaps. I made mine and have found 1 oz bars to be quite sufficient in size, so don't feel you have to make 2 oz. bars. No prizes for big bars here! LOL Please take careful note of the rules--basically, your soap is oil, lye, and water. CP, cool temps, easy stuff. Soaps that aren't according to the rules can't be included in the results. :-( Thanks ladies, for all you're doing to make this a fantabulous swap. Guest guest
Not that I've ever made a 100% grapeseed oil soap, but my guess is that yes, that's what happens. Did you cp at 5 - 6% superfat? Guest guest
yes I did..also a weird thing happened. When I unmolded water leaked out of the mold - would this be what a separation is? I've never encountered this before but the soap like I said looks good and has that spongy feel lol...I will admit though that the color is beautiful - green! ________________________________ From: Beth Byrne <bthbyrne@...> Sent: Tuesday, August 23, 2011 6:47 PM Subject: Re: Single Oil Soap Swap  Not that I've ever made a 100% grapeseed oil soap, but my guess is that yes, that's what happens. Guest guest
Hmm. . . interesting. Did you do the tongue test? Did you use the full water amt., but no more? Cool temps CP? Anything interesting in the actual soapmaking period? Normally, if I had separation like this, I would rebatch it, but since it's for the swap, hold off. Keep careful notes of the soapmaking process, the separation, color, etc. Beth Byrne http://www.SoapAndGarden.com Garden goodness in every bar! www/SoapandGarden.blogspot.com Like Soap and Garden on Facebook & Twitter! Guest guest
Won't hurt to wait that long to tongue test. Interestingly, my coconut oil soap tested fine less than 24 hrs. after molding. I think it took about 5 minutes to set up, LOL. Beth Byrne http://www.SoapAndGarden.com Garden goodness in every bar! www/SoapandGarden.blogspot.com Like Soap and Garden on Facebook & Twitter!
