Guest guest
Hotep, The best reason I use the jar method is that it works for anything that one wants to sprout, except for those things that NEED soil, like sunflower seeds. I find this method to be less expensive and time-consuming. In a message dated 07/07/2004 12:37:55 PM Eastern Daylight Time, echinaceapepperfoot@... writes: This is primarily for green sprouts. For beans or grains, using a soaking jar and then either a sieve or colander for the actual sprouting, works great for me. Guest guest
Hi, it's mark here and i'm very confused! I grow sunflower seeds without soil so can i ask why they need soil? i thought the beauty of growing sprouts was the fact that no soil was required? According to a book i read that got me into sprouts(gillian Mckeith's living food for health) sprouts contain vitamins, minerals and complete protein and she does not say that any soil is required. So, as you can imagine,my heads a little mixed up at the minute! Can anyone help?! Guest guest
Hotep Mark, There are some sprouts that I have found that yield better in soil, like sunflower seeds and chives/garlic. Moldy garlic/chive is a VERY difficult smell to remove from a kitchen and just as unforgettable. I am unfamiliar with the book you mentioned, but if I were you, I would test each method to see what works best. Well, I personally think of sprouting as the ultimate in organic gardening because of its minimalist involvement to yield ratio, but that's not to say it is completely hands-off. I would believe you could sprout ALL seeds in soil. I believe that is how they are grown commercially anyway. I am unsure if sprouts contain a complete protein, but maybe someone else can elaborate on that.
