Guest guest
> > good evening all.....about how much grass does it take to make about 4 > oz of juice ?.....thanks.....peace mary > i grow wheatgrass for personal use and i also wholesale it to nutrition stores.yield of the grass can vary depending on the quality you grow,if its treated with love, recieves good care twice daily , it can yield as high as 25+ ounces per tray (1 by 2 ft tray) or as low as 8 , i feed mine kelp foliar spray with some sea salt, just a pinch in 4 quarts water, spray it twice daily. to combat the mold, i grow in 2 layers paper towel and start rinsing grass mat at about day 4,just 1 inch high, without dirt this is very easy ,i use a garden hose and blow the mold away just as it is starting.if the mold gets out of hand ,your grass is lost.this technique also creates a juice with sweet taste and no yucky aftertaste.i have kept my techniques to myself for business reasons.now i have decided to share everything i know.feel free to email me if you have any questions. joe from joemica wheatgrass peace out
Guest guest
Not sure how big these bags have to be, but the bags that cereal comes in are plastic, almost clear and make great separators when making tortillas. Cut along the side and bottom to open them up. Might not be big enough for your project, but thought I would mention. and like, hey, world peas all around, dude. Guest guest
Joe, your way of growing wheatgrass is very interesting. I've been growing in soil trays (11X21) for a couple of mohths now so I have a bit of experience... Sure LOVE THAT JUICE !!!! I've not yet had trouble with mold, but it's still cold weather... summer may be a different story. This is what I understand your process to be... please correct me if I " m wrong... 1. Soak berries overnight (8-12 hrs.) 2. Rinse well and allow to sprout 12-24 hours. 3. Lay sprouts out between 2 paper towels (paper towel and sprout " sandwich " ), and spray with your kelp and sea salt solution 2 X each day. 4.On Day #4, there should be a grass root-mat holding the berries together. Take this mat off the paper towel and place it on a washing surface (?) and spray it with the hose to wash away any mold that is beginning. 5. Now what? Place on new paper towel and continue to spray with kelp solution? Do you ever put the grass mat in a tray with water? Thanks for filling in the details. Guest guest
The way I grow my wheatgrass .... 1. Sprout wheat berries *Rinse and soak 2 cups wheat berris (12 hours). (I do this in a mason jar with a screw lid with holes) *Drain and Rinse soaked berries really well... and drain until no more drips come out of the jar. *Put jar of soaked and drained berries in a cupboard or on the counter where the sun will not hit it... preferably in a shaded area. *Let sprout for 24 hours. Rinse once after 12 hours. 2. Now your wheatberries are sprouted and are ready to plant. (They are also ready to eat as is... I always make an extra jar for eating for breakfast with granola, nuts, fruit, yogurt and soy milk. A breakfast fit for a king/queen.) a. put 1-2 " of potting soil in seeding tray with holes or slits. b. lightly press soil down with an extra tray c. spread wheatberries over soil... this will be a thick layer... you don't want to see any dirt... you will probably think the sprout layer is too thick, but it's not. d. water tray using shower tipped watering can.. use about one quart of water (maybe less) for 11 " x 21 " tray. e. cover tray with another tray or lid f. I set the dirt filled tray with the holes in it, in another tray that is solid (no holes) to catch the water and prevent a mess on the bookshelves where I grow my grass. g. For the first 3 days, keep covered... water every AM as described above with watering can. h. Every PM spray water on the berries (squirt bottle) to keep them moist throughout the night. Don't panick when you see white fuzzy stuff all over the berries before you spray them. This " fuzz " is really tiny roots looking for water. Spray the berries and they will get what they need. After the first couple of days, they root into the dirt and you don't see this anymore. i. day 4... remove lid... keep tray in indirect light... now water only once a day in the AM with a watering can. (I understand that when summer comes and it's warmer, we will need to water more often... but for now, in the colder north.. once a day works great.) j. when you see the grass begin to grow a 2nd leaf, you are ready to harvest. Depending on the type of wheat you are growing, it could be day 7 to day 12 or later (?). Mine is ready about day 8-9. It is highly recommended that you keep the grass in indirect light, but I have found that if I set the timer so I don't forget, a few hours in direct sunlight makes the leaves thicker and more deeply green... meaning I get more juice. It seems I've noticed that the juice tastes a little better when I do this... but I'm still pretty new and continually experimenting. Good luck with your efforts. We've been drinking juice now for about 3 months (first month we purchased it at Jamba Juice). I have never felt as good mentally , emotionally and physically as I do since making wheatgrass juice a steady part of my diet... not even when I was a child did I feel this good... this sharp and clear and positive... and I have a very good memory.
