Guest guest
> Have to point out a basic misunderstanding you have here. > MMR does not and never did contain mercury. The role that the MMR is > thought to play in autism is different than that played by mercury. You're right. I apologise and retract. Let me widen this a little bit. Mainly as there's so many responses here I'm having trouble keeping up with you all. I'm going to draw a 'line in the sand' and answer any questions/debate any points just in this thread. I'm unused to and have real trouble following all the responses. I get very fed up with websites such as Generation Rescue saying 'autism is mercury poisoning'. I get very fed up of reading things an CAN/DAN sites describing my daughter as 'epidemic'. I get fed up as these things are simply untrue. Politicians are not the only ones to spin stats and snake oil salesmen are very good at convincing you you need a 'cure'. The more hysteria they can whip up whilst in the selling stage, the more they confuse the issue and hey presto, the more they sell. So I decided that I would only take credible, empirically sound treatments as useful and only then when I believed there was no moral dilema. Understand that I don't believe autism to be a bad thing. My daughter is confident and happy. She needs a lot of help with certain things but mainly what *all* autistic kids need is an acceptance of who they are. The advocacy movement is not the bad thing Schafer would have you believe. No autistic I know says that kids should be left alone to fester. They know from personal experience that some interventions are a massive boon. But they also know that a lot are patchy, unreliable, unproven and mostly rubbish. Most importantly, the empirical evidence backs that up too. Thats all for tonight. I'm done in and 'House' is on the telly. I don't want to monopolise your group so if anyone does want to carry this on then feel free to mail me. I use this mail address only for throwaway stuff so you'd be better getting me on kevleitchATgmailDOTcom.

Do you have anything constructive to add? Or are you just having fun over there playing with yourself?
Guest guest
Then, , I urge you again to view Dr. Mark Geier's video footage. He is qualified, as he was ordered by congress to do a study of the CDC's (that's in america) own database. He found a VERY STRONG statistical correlation between thimerosal and autism, and he talks about his work in the video I referenced. He doesn't sell anything to anybody. Refusing to watch the video is your right. But don't try to tell me that it's hearsay. That's merely ignorance on your part. The folks we interviewed to create those videos mostly talk about their OWN WORK. and it's powerful stuff. The link, for your convenience: http://www.autismmedia.org/media2.html I'm only trying to help you. > Evidence to me comes from qualified statisticians and doctors without > anything to sell me. Not online videos of hearsay.
Guest guest
, Classic. My choice is Uranus. I don't know why. It's just like a cool answer to a tough biology question... Guest guest
, I once lived in a tent with 24 men for 6 months, with live ammunition a stones throw away. The tent was designed for 14, but this one guy insisted on keeping his weight bench inside the tent. He was NOT very popular. We never had temper tantrums because of the ammo. And we never got rewarded for good behavior. We never got any ice cream or chocolate the whole time. So we were all emotionally disturbed when we got home... so all of your questions make perfect sense to me...
