The green party is an unproven entity, isn't it? And the perfect way to

lose your voice because they've never had a strong showing. Not that I

don't like Nader's ideas... per se.

I hate to admit it but the more citations I read from Binstock the greener I get.

While adamantly ProLife and conservative (don't stone me) I see environmental stewardship with our food supply and air as pure wisdom. While we want a thriving economy, jobs and so on, it is certainly isn't advantageous to slowly poison people off and damage our kids with environmental assaults in the process. AKA Hg in the air and rocket milk.

Talk about a burden to the future healthcare system.

We've gotten so polarized in this country we can't even see any good the other side has to offer.

has me looking at every plastic container in my house, buying glass storage containers, and tossing out cookware that is not stainless or glass. She got me to toss out all the toothpaste in the house, ditch the chemicals in my garage, and get a water filter on my faucet. I wonder if she knows how much she cost me!! <g>

Look to Norway and Denmark. they have a big Green movement . Lifestyle is

pretty good

We have never faced the kind of planetry pressures that we face now;....

I think we are talking worldview here.

Compare what they are doing in the agriculture worldview(below) with that of

the medical model.

Living soil is the basis of the organic farm: free of toxic chemicals

for at least three years and enriched by compost and other organic matter.

The concept is simple: vigorous plants resist insects, weeds and

diseases better than those under stress due to repeated chemical

applications.

By working with nature to create a diverse farm ecosystem, you produce

optimal growing conditions.

The field is a bug eat bug world, in which a " natural enemy complex "

of predator and parasite insects keep pests in check.

Pest infestations are seen as messengers of fields out of balance,

rather than signals for chemical spray programs.

The organic world view requires more " eyes to the acre, " walking

fields to catch potential problems early, sometimes substituting hand labor

for chemical- oriented solutions.

Because the majority of the agricultural industry equates organic

methods with assured losses in yields, an assumption which is untrue, the

most difficult task these farmers face is not in growing, but in finding

financing or direct markets for their crops.

The conventional field is a sterile environment, in which microbial,

plant and insect diversity is selectively eliminated for the purpose of

growing just one plant.

By feeding the plants heavy dosages of synthetic fertilizers, and

eliminating competing species, it is reasoned, you create maximum yields.

An arsenal of chemical herbicides, insecticides and defoliants -

broadly referred to as pesticides - exists to combat weeds, ward off insects

and facilitate harvest. Without these chemical tools, it is believed, the

unarmed farmer faces near-certain crop failure.

Much of the present conventional farm practice is done in the name of

economy and efficiency. And in the competitive world marketplace, there is

the continual pressure to produce more for less money.

Although government subsidies guarantee U.S. farmers a minimum price

for their crops, financing is almost impossible to receive without chemical

programs in place.

The market, the university system, and agri-business are driven by the

paradigm that chemicals are necessary for successful farming
