Guest guest
Chrissy, you can shape soapballs when you unmold the soap and its still soft. Then let them cure. Sounds like a really fun venture! Good luck Shaye _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of K Bear Creations Sent: Saturday, September 03, 2011 12:41 PM Subject: making soap on a rope ??? camping ideas What is the best way to make soap on a rope. do I attempt to make balls while it is tracing or wait until it is curing? I had done it before but with rebatched soap. Is rebatched the best way to go about going it, i wonder??? My brother in law is opening up a camping, hunting fishing store with a friend in a few months. They really liked my anise fisherman's soap and was wondering what other idea to do. I am working on some jewelweed soap right now as well as a shampoo bar. Some ideas were also tooth paste/powder and maybe a dry shampoo and a jewelweed/anti itch bug cream. It is kind of exciting as I get to do fun stuff that I wanted to do but did't really have customers for. I have made alot of the suff in the past but without a real need it sat around. I can go for a differant look too. Now everything is fancy and victorian and I get to go rustic.
Guest guest
ok so Probably the next day then depending on the recipe and the time of day I make it. just slice it then round it into balls with the rope inside. Hmm too bad I wasn't able to do it earlier in the summer when my neices and nephew were around more. They could have had fun, with that. I have plenty of gloves. > > Chrissy, you can shape soapballs when you unmold the soap and its still > soft. Then let them cure. > Sounds like a really fun venture! Guest guest
Yea, I am assuming you probably unmold when the soap is set up and done heating up and cooling off. Usually the next day. I realize not eveone makes soap the same I guess but thats when I am use to unmolding. The soap is soft enough you could cut into a bar like normal then smoosh it into a ball or an oval or whatever shape you want and could push a " rope " in it. Oh yea the kids could have a lot of fun with that! Guest guest
Kim/Shaye, I'm going this morning to get Jewelweed, am going to dry it, need some here for the likes of things. I will however have some that... cough, cough, will up for grabs. I didn't get a chance to get any dried before the gathering, but with this long weekend I'm getting alot done around here. Just send me a email about the jewelweed, and I prefer to dry it before usage. FYI.. when picking jewelweed you need to be careful of poison oak/ivy growing along side of it. Guest guest
Kim, I collect a lot of Jewelweed and infuse it in oil. Not that I'm not perfectly willing to sell it, lol, but I'd be willing to bet that you could find it in your area. Here's a link with a decent photo just in case you don't know what it looks like: http://www.docmisty.com/health/poison-ivy-alcohol-water-soap-and-maybe-a-little-\ jewelweed/ It likes moist areas with dappled shade, such as at the edge or clearing of the woods. Guest guest
Cheryl. I'd be up for some. I was reading about it last night and it said something about using the 'sap' that is inside it on the irritation... But you would just add the dry into the soap? Might not be a bad thing to add some oatmeal to the soap to... ???? What do you think? Guest guest
I've got some in the dryer drying don't know just how much you are needing. I usually infuse in warm oil and leave it for a few weeks then drain, and squeeze off any more oil from the leaves, then your oil should be a nice green color. For lotions.. do a tea, infuse it and add to your lotions/creams, the infused water is to be calculated to your required amount of water needed for your lotion recipe. I just look for the orange flowers amungst the cattails. You need it really wet. Odd thing I just learned, you can eat the seeds and they taste like walnuts. I never knew that. > > There are molds for it I've seen. I wonder if you could cut it soft and drill a hole in it? I'm thinking something flatter would feel better to shower with.. > > I'm wondering where you come up with the jewelweed??? Can you share your source? I'd like to get my fingers on some up here... > > Kim > > > From: K Bear Creations > Sent: Saturday, September 03, 2011 12:41 PM > > Subject: making soap on a rope ??? camping ideas > > > > What is the best way to make soap on a rope. do I attempt to make balls while it is tracing or wait until it is curing? I had done it before but with rebatched soap. > > > > > >
Guest guest
you could just pour the soap into molds about half way then push the rope into the soap after it sets a few seconds then finish filling it up, i seen this done on a website http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/tipstricks/ss/soaponarope.htm i'm sure this process can be done for any type of soap making.. or at least the one they do starting on page 8 can be. > > What is the best way to make soap on a rope. do I attempt to make balls while it is tracing or wait until it is curing? Guest guest
I've done it. I have the same molds that's shown in that tutorial but if you don't, there is another way I've done it. I use a loaf mold, mark one inch increments on the top edges, pour all the soap in the mold and then place the rope in the center of the inch increments and halfway from the bottom of the molded soap. You can use a kebob skewer to guide the rope down into the soap. You will also need to place another skewer or something down the length of the mold to keep the rope tops from sliding back down into the soap. Before you unmold the soap make score marks where the inch increments are and cut at those score lines. If you see any portion of the rope once you cut it, you can always shape it into a large soap ball soap on a rope. As a matter of fact I like the soap ball look better. Hope this helps and not too confusing. Delores > > > > What is the best way to make soap on a rope. do I attempt to make balls while it is tracing or wait until it is curing? Guest guest
nope I understand. thank you. that does sound like it is perhaps the quickest way to get several done at a time. it also sounds a little less messy too. lol > > > > > > What is the best way to make soap on a rope. do I attempt to make balls while it is tracing or wait until it is curing?
