Guest guest
the main thing to remember is to let the beer go flat. If it isn't it isn't a fun pretty sight. Well actually it is kind of fun if you don't mind freaking out a bit because it is volcanoing out of your container when you add the lye. lol just pour it in a container and give it a few good stirs here and there for a day or a few hours. Should be good to go. I actually bought a beer FO a few years back. People think it is a cute gift item. What I plan on doing next batch is do the beer soap then do a layer of whipped soap ontop so it looks like the foam. (the beer turns it golden so you know, depending on what kind you use.) my story behind the beer soap is drunkin gnomes where playing around in my kitchen while I was away and poured beer in the soap pot. > > First, thanks, everyone, for such a great day on Saturday. Guest guest
Amy, I do beer soap. Let the beer get stale, I leave it opened and stir it from time to time. I then use it in place of the water. Be careful and add your lye VERY slowly as it will volcano in a heartbeat...I've used stout and chocolate ale. With the chocolate ale I didn't pour the lye in slowly enough, had a volcano and lost some of my lye water but I was in a hurry.yadda yadda.soap was a failure. The stout ale soap sells well at shows. Good luck. Jeanine's Hummingbird Soap Works _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of cnyscbwi Sent: Monday, August 01, 2011 3:09 PM Subject: Beer soap (and Thanks!) Guest guest
I make a bear soap too. Be very careful when adding the lye to your beer. I use a dishpan to set my lye water pitcher in before adding the lye. That way if the beer decides to volcano like it did that one time, then I have a containment vessel to catch the overflow. Be sure to wear your goggles and gloves too... The day I forgot the containment vessel was the day it volcanoed and went all over the floor. I was soaping in my flip flops that day. It could have been very bad but I got out of the way in time. Kim From: cnyscbwi Sent: Monday, August 01, 2011 3:09 PM Subject: Beer soap (and Thanks!) Guest guest
I had a volcano when I made wine soap. I don't think I got to alcohol boiled out enough or something. Soap still turned out ok though. Actually turned out quite purty. chocolate ale sounds interesting. > > Amy, I do beer soap. Let the beer get stale, I leave it opened and stir it > from time to time. Guest guest
I keep reading this subject line as " beer soup. " LOL! I've had beer-and-cheddar soup before, though, and it's DELICIOUS!!! Guest guest
An easier way to make beer soap, especially for your first time, is this: Make your lye water with 1/3 - 1/2 of the liquid amt. Measure the rest out in beer. Mix your lye water into your oils. Add beer. This way, you won't get the volcanoing like you get when adding lye to beer. Some feel that the lye kills properties in the beer, so you may be saving more of them by doing it this way. I don't know, but I will say that this method turns out a soap as nice as the ones I've done the 100% beer way. If this doesn't make sense, it's my head that's at fault. Guest guest
What a great tip!! Just like adding the goat milk soap after the fact so to speak. Guest guest
Hi Amy, I make beer soap too. I agree with all the answers here but I let the beer freeze to slushy ice after it goes flat and then pour the lye slowly over the slushy mixture, stirring all the while. Don't forget to weigh the beer. I don't trust their 12 oz measurements. Delores > > First, thanks, everyone, for such a great day on Saturday. Everything was just so awesome. Guest guest
It seems to me that since liquids vary in density, that's exactly why they SHOULD be weighed. Only water is consistently 16 fl. oz. = 16 oz. net wt. I weigh everything I use--beer, cukes, eggs, all of it.
