Guest guest
, There were actually 3 presentations on surgical weight loss, one adult, one pediatric, and one on pregnancy and lactation after bariatric surgery. I covered post-op needs for pregnancy and lacatation in my session and subsequently published an article on the topic for the Women's Health and Reproductive Nutrition. It takes a lot of work to get sessions accepted, funded and coordinated. If our practice area wants more presentations, it is up to us to make timely submissions and to push our interest forward. We can not rely on ADA to make this their agenda, that won't happen since there are so many aspects of weight managment not to mention hundreds of other topics in nutrition that compete for attention. Individuals can submit topics, but more weight is given when a DPG backs the presentation. I would encourage you to consider submitting an idea with suggested speakers. The deadline for 2005-2006 is early this year because the meeting is in Hawaii and will be held earlier. You (or anyone on this list) can contact the ADA to submit a topic.
