Guest guest
Our endocrinologists give 50,000 IU Vit D as a repletion dose (once a week for 1 or 2 months.. I think). This is by prescription. With a known deficiency, you are probably not going to find what you need over the counter if the goal is repletion. If you are in a hospital, contact someone in your endocrine or pharmacy department about pharmacological options. Amy Haselbush MS, RD Vitamin D repletion Hello, I'm curious to know what your doctors are prescribing for deficient (vit d 25 (oh)< 9) and suboptimal (vit d 25(oh)< 20) vitamin D levels. Currently most of our RNY patients get 1200 units of vit D from MVI and calcium + D supplements. unfortunetely living in the New England area the sun is not a good source this time of year...the darn sun goes down at 4:30!!! We have seen quite a few with suboptimal levels and are very concerned with their bone health. I called a couple of pharmacies and they only carried gel caps. We advise our patients to avoid pills until 8 months post-op so gel caps does not seem to be a good option. I've tried to find an oral liquid vit d supplement but have failed. Any suggestions? and if you know of an oral liquid supplement...what is the drug company, does it taste ok, and is it expensive? Thanks for you help!
