I have the same question. I have tried to leave them to dry out before

packaging them, only to reopen and either have a rancid smell (some made

with olive oil) or be clumpy (even with cornstarch). Now I have made some

that still smell and feel great even though they seem a bit moist. But if

there is something I need to do differently, I would love to know!

TIA

What is the receipe that you are using???

If you are using just oil and scent, why do they have to dry out???

Lynn,

The reason I add the oils (I also use sweet almond oil) to my bath salts is:

it makes the bath water so much more softening to my skin. It is kind of

like bathing with a bath oil but not as greasy. But when I get done my skin

is so soft and I don't even need to apply lotion. But I don't get that oily

residue type of film on my skin. Just a nice softening to my entire body..

To me it makes me feel more like I've had a " spa treatment " in my own tub.

Don't know about others but this is the reason I add the oils to my bath

salts.

, SOOO glad to have you back! I will send you the recipe I have been

using...it's wonderful!

Bath Salts

Hello......I'm back........glad to be here again and I have a question.

I'm going to be trying my hand at making bath salts. I would like something

very simple to start since I'm so new to this whole area. I remember

something about epsom salt being the staple, but of course, I need color and

aroma........

Thanks!!

Vickie, look at the recipe on this link. I think you could decrease the

baking soda by 8 oz and add 8 oz sea salt .

Vickie fed into the conspiracy theory with:

> does anyone know how to make bath salts that

> fizz....when added to bath water....

The generic recipe I started out with was:

2 cups baking soda

1 cup corstarch

1 cup citric acid

10 drops EO/FO

10 drops CO

Hi Michele,

NatraBath is great to use in bath salts or alone. It absorbs eos/fos and

also carrier oils and will hold the scent and the oil in a powder form. Bath

salts can then be added to the NatraBath/eo/fo blend. The NatraSorb disperses

in the warm bath and releases the oils. Nice feel also.

Does anyone use desiccant packets to absorb the moisture in bath salts?

Where do you get small enough packets? Thanks!

I've been using the packets for about a year. I got them when I worked for a

department store. People remove them from shoe boxes and pocketbooks. Also

grocery stores get them in boxes of candies. If you checked with the stores,

possibly they would save them for you. They have proven very effective for me in

controlling the moisture.

Purple always fades in the sun, for some odd reason. I just re-color it or

stir well (somehow the color collects towards the middle of the bath salts).

Lindy~I make my bath salts from Kosher salt or sea salt which you can

find in your market and also epsom salts at the market too. i use my

eo's ~thats it---i dont add oil~but some others do! and i add my

coloring. Mix all ingredients in zip lock bag & really blend the mixture

well before adding to your jars or pouches or whatever you intend to

keep them i!!!! I just made " Sea Mist " and used blue food coloring and

my salts and my eo's and it came out wonderful. Nice shade of blue!!!!

Try it ~its alot of fun!!!! *hugs* Misty

One thing you could do is to use powdered coloring www.stuffjulielikes.com

has great mica powder coloring. You could also mix the salts in a huge

container, I use a kittie litter type container. Then if I use liquid

coloring I just keep it out in the open and just keep stirring it 10x a day

til it is dry. It could take a few days. if you package it while it is still

damp you get clumps (as you have noticed) So don't package it til it is

dry. I have found it is just easier to use powdered colorant. it is easier.

Hope that helps erin

I'm sure you've all heard about the drugs that are being marketed as " bath

salts " . Well, this ban came out today

http://www.nyhealth.gov/press/releases/2011/2011-05-23_bath_salts.htm.

I had a voice mail from a consignment account that I have saying that they've

had to pull my bath salts from the shelf because of the ban. I just filled a

large wholesale order for them also. The posting on the Dept of Health website

is too vague. Do any of you know what is actually being banned? Is it those

ingredients only or anything marketed as " bath salts " ? She made it sound as if

they or I could be fined.

What do you think?

Katy, couldn't open the link you sent. But I guess the 'bath salts' are

really bad...Too bad we will all get colored with the same brush!

Thanks everyone! Yes, I understand that Schumer wants the chemicals

banned. I think the wording on the website was poorly written and way

too vague. I'm sure that's what prompted her call. If anyone has seen

the exact legal documentation on it and can point me there, that would

be great. I'll do my best to explain this to her. :)
