We recommend clear liquids, 15-30 cc q 15 minutes as tolerated, never to

the point of discomfort or nausea. Pts are instructed to increase pace

to about 30 cc q 10 minutes (again as tolerated) once discharged,

advancing to more full liquids in week 2.

What are other facilities doing in terms of diet immediately post op?

clear liquids q 20-30 minutes vs clear liquids q 1 hour?

Thanks

We start with Ice chips, then water, then send up a clear liquid sugar free tray with diet jell-o, decaf tea or coffee, sf popsicle, then the next day they are pureed 2oz/meal

Our post-op patients are instructed to drink slowly as tolerated with

no limits or strict guidelines. I do encourage them to use a

medicine cup or a shot glass to sip from until they get the hang of

it.
