Guest guest
Has anyone here attended this conference? This year it is in June in San Diego. I see that the conferences offers full-day seminars for allied health professionals, along with exhibits, and other offerings. I would be interested in some recommendations if you found this conference helpful, and if so, what parts of the conference you would recommend for a RD. Thanks. Guest guest
don't attend the part that is "general" allied health. it is very broad and focuses on all aspects of starting a bariatric practice. go for the second day which focuses more on nutrition, psych, physical activity. also attend the rd breakout session and please bring back any enlightening info to the group! Guest guest
I have attended this conference. Some of the sessions are pretty general, for people just getting involved, but there are interesting sessions to just help further knowledge of bariatric surgery. The allied heath sessions are from RDs and and every other disciplinary other than surgeons. They have plenary sessions where people present research and they do have breakout sessions for each disciplinary. I was not at the meeting last year in Boston but went when it was in Las Vegas in 2002. I plan on attending this year. If you have never been, it's a nice place to go. The itinerary was better last year than in '02 so I'm hoping it will keep improving and be of value for those who have been doing this awhile. It's always nice to be among your peers in the same field. For the person who wanted more information on this, go to the ASBS website at www.asbs.org. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I attended ASBS in Boston last year. I felt that both days of the Allied Health meetings were beneficial. Our hospital was in the process of beginning a multi-disciplinary program for bariatric surgery and the overview of how all parts of the program fit together was very helpful for a new surgery program. I think it depends on how involved you are going to be in all aspects of the program. ************************************************************** Angie , RD, LDN Bariatric Surgery Coordinator Dietitian, Wellness and Diabetes Management Blount Memorial Hospital/Wellness Center (865) 980-7119 (865) 977-5767 " Randi Belhumeur " <randib@...> < > cc: 01/21/04 08:14 PM Subject: RE: American Please respond to Society for Bariatric Surgery conference BariatricNutritio nDietitians don't attend the part that is " general " allied health. it is very broad and focuses on all aspects of starting a bariatric practice. go for the second day which focuses more on nutrition, psych, physical activity. also attend the rd breakout session and please bring back any enlightening info to the group!
