Re: What goes with oatmeal?

You could add a scoop of protein powder, or mix in a serving on

cottage cheese and microwave it. I know it sounds a bit weird, but

with a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg it's pretty good. Especially on

cool Autumn mornings.

Of course, another simple to go meal could be a serving of CC and a

piece of fruit.

What goes with oatmeal? hmmm. Never really thought about it. I just

grab a carb, protein, veg & water. Never worried about what goes

together. I never worried about what time of the day I eat certin

foods. Corn at 7 am, eggs at 7 pm -makes no differance to me.

If people have a problem with the way I eat I just ignore them. I

figure they can make fun of me all they want. In 12 weeks they will

not be making jokes, instead they will be asking for advice.

I have 4 egg whites & 1 yolk. Depends on your goal & the size of your

fist. Your doing fine there, I was just checking.

i like to mix my oatmeal with lowfat cottage cheese and heat them

together the last couple minutes on the stove, or 1 minute in the

microwave. it makes the oatmeal creamy, like adding milk, but better i

think =)

i also eat oatmeal with a side of egg beaters or a hardboiled egg.

you could mix it with a scoop of vanilla or natural protien powder as well.

I eat oatmeal every morning usually with sugarfree maple syrup in

it.. With it I eat 4 eggwhites and one egg with a tomato and onions

in it. If I'm on the go than I just have cottage cheese with cinamon

and splenda in it. along with my oatmeal. On freedays I put a tbs

of pnutbutter in my oatmeal and 1 in my cottage cheese. Yummmy the

pnutbutter in the oatmeal gets all gooey. I love it. I could eat it

6 meals a day, but I don't. I personally can't stomach the protein

powder in the oatmeal. It is too gross and goopy

Sharon, don't worry, soon you'll be looking forward to grossing your

coworkers out with your weird combos. For my oatmeal, I cook it and

then beat in my portion of egg whites. If you temper the eggs first-

stir a small amount of hot oatmeal into them before adding them to

the pot on the stove- the don't scramble and just make your oatmeal

very creamy. You can make it with a good amound of water to have a

regular hot cereal consistency or you can make it with less water to

have almost a pudding consistency. I prefer steel cut oats- they

are little nuggets and less processed. I flavor with cinnamon and

brown sugar sweet and low.

Another favorite is to make the steel cut oats with a small amount

of water, but no eggs. Flavor with cinnamon, vanilla, and

sweetener, and spread half your normal serving in a bowl. Top with

half a serving of thawed frozen blueberries then a serving of

cottage cheese. I think calls this " Berry Slop " and it is

TASTY!

I just had

A grilled hamburger with mustard & ketchup. (actually it was ground

turkey)

Also Coconut cream pie yogurt. (not the best - 34 carbs!!) I'll have

to eat less carbs next meal.

So anyway I had 'supper' for 'breakfast'

In BFL there is no such thing as Breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper. It

is all meals. Meal 1, Meal 2, etc.

Don't worry about what goes with what or what time you eat certian

foods.

I love eating oatmeal in the morning. I usually sweeten it with

Sweet and Low Brown Sugar and some diet maple syrup. For protein I

usually have a side of scrambled eggs, some cottage cheese, some

turkey breast roll-ups or a protein shake.

I hate to be a dissenter, but I do not like the consistency/texture

of cooked oatmeal with cottage cheese....ewww.

However, one day I didn't have a pancake on me (which I DO love!) and

mixed dry oats with cc, cinnamon and splenda. Voila! It's almost

like a yogurt granola parfait kinda deal. I like it!

You can also do the protein cookies with oats, protein powder, pb and

banana...pretty tasty though I wouldn't do it all the time.

Barley for me is much more versatile as far as pairing with protein

because it's not as " mushy " as oatmeal. You can cook barley with

cinnamon and splenda like oats, or you can use it as a savory side.

Hey JeAnne!

Have you tried Irish oatmeal? It's almost got a crunchy texture

when it's cooked. They also have quick Irish oatmeal that is by the

BFL guidelines.

It's yummy...I like mine with brown sugar and a side of cc. I can't

mix either.

I haven't ! I'm going to have to check it out because I

think I would like it. I have a grains cookbook that has all sorts

of cool recipes for irish oats, barley, quinoa, wheat berries

etc...I'm going to have to experiment a bit more.
