Guest guest
from: http://www.immunesupport.com/library/showarticle.cfm?ID=1318 Thanks to 7-Keto DHEA, The Time to Feel Young Again is Now! by Steele ImmuneSupport.com 03-10-2000 -- Sure, we all want to feel like a kid again. Suppose you could not only feel as good as you did in your 20s, but you could actually reverse the toll normal living takes on your body? You would want take advantage of it -- we all would, provided the solution was a safe one. A few years ago, Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) was touted as an anti-aging miracle-worker. Its benefits were stunning; increased bone and muscle density, improved memory and sense of well being, and heightened sexual satisfaction are to name but a few. Taken as a supplement, the hormone promised to single-handedly combat diseases such as atherosclerosis, osteoporosis and senility. However, one aspect of DHEA is that it does increase sex hormones, testosterone and estrogen. If you were concerned about adding DHEA as a supplement to your regimen of healthy diet and exercise, because of its role in promoting sex hormones, it's time to celebrate. Researchers recently discovered an even more potent derivative of DHEA, 7-Keto DHEA, and it's entirely free of these side effects. In the inner workings of the human body, DHEA plays the starring role. Until about age 30, DHEA, the most prevalent hormone in the human body, is found in abundance. As we age, the level of DHEA in our bodies steadily declines, either fueling, or as a result of, the aging process. Although it is not yet understood what the precise function of DHEA is, its replenishment produces startling and welcome improvements and reversals of the aging process. Although research has identified a couple hundred metabolites (derivatives) of DHEA, 7-Keto DHEA is the one primarily responsible for yielding anti-aging properties. Clearly the most exciting aspect of 7-Keto DHEA is the safety it affords in long-term use. With 7-Keto DHEA, you may experience: + Boosted immune system -- 7-Keto DHEA increases the production Interleukin-2 and specialized white blood cells, both of which strengthen immune defenses. + Cardiovascular benefits -- 7-Keto DHEA reduces your risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke. + Higher metabolism -- 7-Keto DHEA activates enzymes in the liver that increase the rate of thermogensis (the process by which fat is burned). + Prevention of diabetes + More energy 7-Keto DHEA not only produces the same positive effects as DHEA, it does it more effectively in its derivative form. Laboratory tests on mice demonstrate 7-Keto DHEA protects against memory loss, and it may even recover " lost " memories. Thus, you may very well possess a better grasp of your memories at 80, than you did in your hectic 30s and 40s. Remarkably, deterioration -- once an inevitable result of chronologically aging -- may now be reversed in as little as four weeks taking 7-Keto DHEA. As you grow older, you can continually boost your mental and physical well being. The progressive physical limitations that once accompanied the aging process are not the inevitability they once were. Sources: Health Sciences Institute, Members Alert, Oct. 1999, pp.1, 3-6. Date: Wed, 10 Jan 2001 Subj: Re: [metals] Pregnenolone info Pregnenolone is predominantly a neurosteroid -- that is, it acts on the central nervous system. It and DHEA and 7-keto-DHEA act as allosteric antagonists of GABA-A receptors in the brain. GABA is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the CNS. Pregnenolone can be converted to cortisol, estrogenic steroids, and/or androgenic steroids. DHEA can be converted into androgenic steroids (more so in women than in men) or estrogenic steroids (more so in men than in women). So in women, DHEA and preg. cause masculinization, and in men, much of a given dose of either of the two steroids is converted into estrogenic steroids such as estrogen. DHEA and perhaps preg. are also antiglucocorticoid steroids -- meaning that they compete for binding sites that would otherwise be occupied by cortisol (I think this is more or less the meaning of antiglucocorticoid), which is catabolic and immune-suppressive and is generally bad in excess. 7-keto-DHEA is the neurosteroid of choice, because it enhances memory more than DHEA (and more than preg.?--maybe) and cannot be converted into either estrogenic or androgenic steroids. And it itself is not either androgenic or estrogenic but is rather purely an antiglucocorticoid (and inducer of thermogenic enzymes). It really doesn't have any side effects. It's available from Twinlab. Sorry I made my reply so lengthy. Pregnenolone is mainly used as a memory enhancer, and it does enhance memory. 7-keto-DHEA (aka 7-oxo-DHEA) does enhance memory but is mainly used as a fat loss (weight loss) supplement. It's produced normally by the body from DHEA (to 7-alpha-hydroxy-DHEA by CYP7B1, which is then dehydrogenated by some as yet unspecified 7-alpha-hydroxysteroid or hydroxysterol dehydrogenase enzyme).
