Ellen, could you please expand upon what you mean by "a huge conflict of interest" - this is the first time I am hearing of this.

Thank you,

Hi all,

I am new to the listserve and would like to know where I can get the most recent and current information regarding the role that RD's have to play in Nutritional follow up on Bariatric patients in an acute outpatient hospital setting.

I recently recieved many letters indicating that ADA is proposing tossess the role RD's have in this process and to re-look at the responsibility of having to give MNT to these patients since there was a huge conflict of interest . I believe this petition was taken to the last ADA meeting and I did not get the results of what occured.

Any info would be helpful

thank you

I would be most inerested in that as well. Are they saying if you work for a surgeon who does the surgery, you should not be part of the process of acceptance or rejection for surgery?

NO, I recently recieved afew letters from my other list serves that I am on, one is called Jumpstart and the other is the Nutrition Entrepreneurs ADA list serve and recieved a letter from some colleages that they are concerned about RD's providing MNT for Bariatric patients, I think the concern was that this was not in our scope of practice

I will try to find the petetion and copy and paste it for you all to see

This supposedly was going to the ADA meeting for review

I would be interested to see that as well. I don't understand what you mean

that this is not our scope of practice. If RDs are not going to provide MNT

for bariatric patients, who should be doing it?

What did they base that on? Some insurances require an assessment by an RD to precert the pt!
