Oh, a woodburning stove---how nice! My guess is that since the water will be heating, you will be continually replacing it, so you probably don't need to worry about microbes. If I were you, I would probably just wash it out periodically. I think the eo would be a matter of preference--I personally love to add eos to a pot of water on the stove or those little aromatherapy things. This time of year I like cinnamon or clove, balsam fir needle, and sweet orange as a blend. Some people think that using an eo like eucalyptus or tea tree or rosemary can help to disinfectect the air in your home. I can't site any studies about whether or not that's true, but I enjoy the scent anyway. Guest guest
Could that be Clove Bud?? I was at Bath & Body Works and surprised to find a lot of Essential Oils that I never saw in my large Health Food Store! I use a humidifier a lot here in the desert and because of my sinus problems. You do have to keep the container clean because you can re-circulate buggies that you begin to harbor in the container itself. Cate
Guest guest
Any bacteria that grow in the water would not survive in the oxygen in the air. So death by evaporation so to speak, lol. An essential oil in the water would create a wonderful environment and would be effective again air-born viruses etc. Since you are not going to drink the water in the pot, the bacteria is not really a problem. Just the same, I would wash it out with bleach every so often, or scrub it out well with soap and let it sit in the sun for a few days (my remedy for lots of things that need cleaning and deodorizing - i.e. plastics especially). Funny how you have a dryness problem while I have a moisture problem here on the westcoast. I will be needed a de-humidifier in order to store soaps in my basement. Ps. Recently I visited a spa that had the most wonderful evergreen smells coming through the air conditioning system. I could smell spruce and pine and cypress. I asked what the others were and the practitioner said it was mostly clover??? I have never heard of clover essential oil. You too huh? I just stood there & laughed because I thought it was so funny - but then I was angry as well as most of the public is not aware that they are not selling essential oils. Come on - where did they find a jasmine EO?? I though it was only an absolute - and an expensive one at that!! Aradia
Guest guest
Thanks Angie, I was wondering about this because after reading all the instructions o the humidifier boxes, some claim they don't cause bacteria because of standing water, bla bla bla. You're right, a nice e/o would be a plus anytime! Barb J Idaho
