Hi,

I made hummus for the first time in the vita mix today. I need some pointers.

Ok, lol, I *almost* burned out the poor blender! Thank heavens for that safety

feature where it turns itself off!

I used 2 cans of chick peas(the 16 oz ones), drained, 1/4 c minced garlic, 1/2 c

olive oil, juice of 1 lemon, 1/4 c sesame seeds

I put all that into the vita mix and then put it on variable speed 6 for a

while, used the tamper to squish everything down, then upped the speed to ten.

It did get all mixed, but after being on ten for only a short while, it turned

off.

I've had the vita mix since september 2008 and have made tons of green smoothies

in it, lots of sauces for my high raw diets, etc, but am just now branching out

doing things like peanut butter, etc. I don't have the cookbook that came with

it anymore since my computer crashed and I lost a bunch of things that were on

that hard drive.

thanks!

Caitlyn

I always have to add a little water to mine, but then I don't add oil to mine. So I'm not sure. Gab Some people think to be strong is to never feel pain. In reality, the strongest people are the ones who feel it, understand it, accept and learn from it. From: Caitlyn

It probably turned off because it was on variable and the fan wasn't cooling the motor. Next time just flip it to high which kicks the fan on. That sounds like the recipe from the VitaMix book and it's the one I use. I probably do add a little good oil. I want that extra flavor.Sent from my iPadHDOn Jul 3, 2012, at 9:24 PM, le Yarbrough <gab_yarbrough@...> wrote:

Oh, it uses 2 cans of chickpeas but only one can is drained. The other can and it's water goes into the mix.Sent from my iPadHDOn Jul 3, 2012, at 9:24 PM, le Yarbrough <gab_yarbrough@...> wrote:

Hello Caitlyn,In the 5200 series machines there is no fan to cool the motor on any of the Variable Speeds. Thick batters and recipes like hummus should be processed on high (there is a fan to cool the motor that kicks on when the machine is on high. Try Hummus again on high - it comes out great and so creamy! :-)

When there is air coming out of the bottom of the vitamix when it is going, does that mean the fan is on? Mine has air coming out of the bottom even on variable, not just on high? (mine is a reconditioned 5200)Thanx!
