I consult for Reading Surgical Associates

in Reading, PA. This is the form that I have patients

sign after their pre-op appointment. The form is in triplicate – 1 copy

goes to the patient, 1 goes on the office chart, and the other goes in my

chart. Hope this helps!

hi beth..we have 1 hour alloted for our new patients. it is during this time that we go over our RNY dietary guidelines (about 30 min) and then they take the test (about 15 min) that gives us the rest of the time to go over the answers. we dont like for them to take it home b/c we want to be on hand for any questions that they might have.

good luck

Quick question....When do you administer the test? Do you you allow them to take it at home utilizing their education materials you provided them?

thank you so much. I am having the same problem with my patients.

our center is also looking to administer a preop post test. Have you found any particular issues that patients seem to struggle with in terms of understanding? Also, what format do you use to set up the test: multiple choice, true - false, etc. Just wondering what you have found to be most helpful.

Thank you in advance,

Elina, hello :)

so far we really havent had anyone not understand our test. the problems we are finding later on is that they dont really understand what constitutes as a cho, pro, or fat. we are seeing that we are telling these individuals to increase their protein intake but even though they have some lists ..they really dont understand basic nutrition. that is why we have decided to start educating our pt on basic nutrition before the surgery. that way we are educating them on how to modify their diets. it is becoming an overwelming task for some of our pts to change their diet when they dont understand exactly what to do. fyi ..these pts passed the test with 100%, and never voiced any concerns pre surgery..it all unfolds after surgery. i have uploaded our tests under the rny section of pt education. let me know if you have trouble downloading them

good luck :)

RE: Document/signature

I find a lot of them don't even know the basics. They struggle with what is a CHO and Protein. You would think they would know because of all the diets they have been on. I just started using the test and that seem to be the only questions they struggle with.
