I've been using a home-made taco seasoning with really good results.. have made

the tortillas soup now 3 times.. never any leftovers. :)

1 part chili powder

3 parts roasted cumin

1 part red pepper flakes (more or less, depending on heat preference)

I keep a bottle on hand of this mix and just scoop out as needed.

BTW - this is the mix - I only use a heaping tablespoon at one time in one batch :-)

I'm also interested in this recipe. But for clarification for a newbie... are

the two packets the packets that you would use to make taco meat. Also, one

bottle of cumin..what size bottle is that? Is it the standard size spice bottle

that you buy in the store?

Two packages of Taco Spice (just like the kind people buy to mix into meat for Tacos). I get mine at Whole Foods Market and purchase an Organic version. The bottle of Cumin is also purchased at WFM and is the "regular" size - not small and not large :-)Hope this helps!

We love tortilla soup. I put a scoop of rice in the middle of the bowl the soup

around that and on top I but pieces of avocado, lots of chopped cilantro and

some crispy strips of corn tortillas. I also like a little corn in the soup. A

bottle of cumin is a lot. We love cumin and I probably use a tablespoon for 4 to

6 cups of chicken stock.

Hello Terry - the whole bottle (plus the two packets of Taco Spice Mix) make up the "recipe". I usually use 1 heaping or 2 level Tablespoons of this mix in a batch of Tortilla Soup…

That sounds more like it. I thought they were talking about putting an entire bottle of cumin in the soup.Sent from my iPadHDOn Jun 23, 2012, at 4:29 PM, Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...> wrote:
