Hello eilismaura,Have you visited this page of my website:http://blenderlady.com/help-for-digestive-problems/Some people benefit in only a couple of days from eating according to the "rules of proper food combining" (which is what the program "Great Taste No Pain" is about). I don't think that everyone needs to worry about "proper food combining", but for some people, it can be almost miraculous. Are you eating your Green Smoothies on an empty stomach? Do your Green Smoothies contain ONLY fruit + greens + water and ice (with no additives like starch veggies and/or flax or chia seeds, etc.)?You don't have to buy the "Great Taste No Pain" program to get started on food combining - there are a ton of food combining charts on the Internet. It is a QUICK and EASY thing to try - you should know within a few days of eating that way if it will help you!

I have been wanting to do green smoothies and was doing so for a brief period.

I had trouble with bloating and had a bout of some pretty bad pain on the lower left side.

Yesterday I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy ( to look for any issues re bleeding because I have been having trouble with anemia) and learned I have a mild dose of diviticulitis.

I have been trying to look up information and have gotten really lost in it - so I figure I would turn to folks who are using green smoothies today -

What is a good slow way to work into having them so as not to blow up my system with too much fiber?

Anyone have experience using green smoothies and have divitiulitis?

FYI I am not on a limited diet at this time as it is all 'behaving' and I am waiting for test results to find out if there is any infection in the system just as a precaution.

Are you eating your Green Smoothies on an empty stomach? YES

Do your Green Smoothies contain ONLY fruit + greens + water and ice (with no additives like starch veggies and/or flax or chia seeds, etc.)? YES - they generally contained carrots, celery, bit of cucumber, some leafy green (kale, large outer cabbage leaves, spinach) and frozen fruit (bananas, mango, papaya pulp being the most common I have used)

Ah, we may have found the problem… IF your body would respond better to "proper food combining" the cabbage and carrots do not qualify as "greens" and should not be mixed with fruit. Here are some guidelines for Green Smoothies:http://greensmoothiesblog.com/guidelines-green-smoothies/Excerpt:Don’t add anything to your smoothie except greens, fruit and water. I don’t recommend adding nuts, seeds, oils, supplements or other ingredients to your green smoothie. Most of these items slow down the assimilation of green smoothies in your digestive tract and may cause irritation and gas. Even though I provide recipes with more than basic ingredients in my books I encourage you to stick to the basic green smoothie recipe (fruit and greens) in your daily routine.Drink your smoothie by itself, and not as a part of a meal. Don’t consume anything, even as little as a cracker or candy with it. You may eat anything you want approximately 40 minutes before or 40 minutes after you finished your smoothie. Your goal is to get the most nutritional benefit out of your green smoothie.Do not add starchy vegetables such as carrots, beets, broccoli stems, zucchini, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, egg plant, pumpkin, squash, okra, peas, corn, green beans, and others to your green smoothies. Starchy vegetables combine poorly with fruit and may produce what my children call “gas 4 less.”You will discover that the starchy veggies don't mix well with the fruits when you get the "Great Taste No Pain" books or you Google to find proper food combining charts…AGAIN - Proper Food Combining isn't something that everyone needs to worry about!!!BUT - it can be almost miraculous for Some People!
