Guest guest
, Are you the ( Parrott) of the Bariatric Surgery Subunit? I have tried to contact you via the email address in the Wt Management DPG newsletter, but my mail kept getting returned. I am very interested in joining the subunit Thanks, Sue Manchester 401.444-8193 Rhode IslandI Hospital Providence, RI 02903 ASBS mtg update Hi & all,my earlier post did not post at all...so here we go againI attended ASBS Sat. Allied Health Essentials & Mon. Allied Health general session (new research & controversial topics presented) Interesting new info. especially in the area of pediatric adolescent bariatrics - Victor from Univ. Cincinatti presented a synopsis of their program.Sun. 7am (uggh!) Aills, ASBS & ADA member and myself presented the Special Interest Group mtg. for Dietitians. We had ~ 100 people attend, including Snyder & Abbe (but I didn't get to meet you, where did you run off to?). We would all appreciate your feedback on this & please don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings (however, tact will be appreciated). My main goal is to see that we achieve the best overall care for bariatric pts. We are trying very hard to make this happen by facilitating the collaboration between both the ADA & ASBS. It was announced in the Sun am mtg & Mon. mtg that the ASBS has approved the formation of an adhoc nutrition committee to address the need for developing dietary guidelines for bariatric surgeries. "ASBS will ask the ADA to appoint 3 RDs & ASBS will appoint 3 members to sit on this committee" In addition, the ADA wt mgmt. (WM) Bariatric subunit is starting to take off. What does this mean? I have finally moved me & my family from IL to TX & am settled & focused enough to mobilize all of you who have expressed an interest in volunteering. (Remember - this is all volunteer!) We are in the process of organizing & facilitating the variety of tasks that are screaming for attention within bariatric nutrition. Bottom line...collaboration between ADA & ASBS & breaking barriers (all of us). I'm sorry if I missed meeting any of you - I especially was looking for you & we did announce your listserve as a wonderful resource for bariatric dietians ( & other professionals).I especially enjoyed & appreciated the multidisciplinary nature of the ASBS conference. What an opportunity to network & ask questions with everyone on the bariatric healthcare team.hope this update helps...please add to itThanks,

It was a large group of people in the room, classroom style, so it was not the best forum for meeting others and sharing. Maybe a half-day event of some kind, maybe using rotating roundtable discussions of 10-12 people & one facilitator per topic, and think about allowing enough time for everyone to introduce themselves so others could find them later. I was so bummed I did not get to meet Snyder, or Abbe, but it was great meeting everyone I did get to talk with! I had to go back to my office Monday evening to do some catch-up work, so I was not able to attend the reception, did everyone go to that? Maybe also we could all agree to try to sit in one area of the general sessions, too, just so we can start finding each other right away.
