Jeff, I also wondered about the Samson marketing technique. It isn't mauch cheaper for me as I am Canadian, by the time the money exchange, shipping, duty & G.S.T. taxes are calculated. Has anyone tried the " make your own " sprouter at gogreen.org.? We are farmers in Ontario, grow soybeans and wheat (soft)about 2,500 acres in all. Thanks again.......I'm driven to find out all I can. Trish Hi Trish, I bought the plans to make my own sprouter from gogreen.org. I just sent $117 to Arizona Mist for the main parts for the bigger sprouter, the one that fits in the Wrap 'n Craft box. Quite a savings compared to buying her kit. But now I have to find all the little fittings, nickel and dime stuff, at the local hardware. I have been growing wheat grass in several large plastic containers and using a pump sprayer for my " mister " . It is working well. Since I am home most of the time, except when I am here at the library using the internet, it is convenient for me to manually mist all my sprouts. I am looking forward to making the actual sprouter according to the plans because a finer mist at more regular intervals will no doubt be better for my sprouts. Also in anticipation of receiving my Samson Juicer any day now, I have some trays of wheat grass ready. No juicer yet, just a Champion that cooked my first and last batch, so I use my Vita Mix. Check out this recipe: 1 tray of wheat grass cut into 2 " piecer 1 cup kombucha Blend on high for a couple minutes but before anything gets warm. Strain out pulp. I give pulp a final squeeze in my clean hand. Rinse juicer. Place now green kombucha back in VitaMix with one frozen banana. Blend well. Now that is quite an energy drink! No sure if its the chlorophyll in the wheat grass, the sugar in the banana, or the caffeine in the kombucha. ;^) Marilyn ===== " When our food refuse is discarded as waste, the natural human nutrient cycle is broken, creating problems such as pollution, loss of soil fertility, and abuse of our water resources. Guest guest
I think most/all Breville juicers are centrifugal juicers... in other words they use speed and spinning to extract the juice, so many nutrients are oxidized and lost in the process. I know the Breville used in Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead was centrifugal - it was fast and loud. Look for slow, masticating juicers (I believe Hurom, Green Star, Omega, Angel, and Champion are all high-quality, well-known examples; Norwalk is a hydraulic juice press which also retains more nutrients.) You will pay more for these, but it's worth it because the pulp comes out dry (not the case with centrifugal juicers) and you get way more nutrients with your juice (kind of the whole point of juicing, right? For the health benefits?) There are so many fun things you can do with the pulp, too - add it to muffins and cakes, make salsa, mix with kimchi and other ferments along with nuts and dehydrate to make crackers, throw it into quiche, mix in with burger patties, etc. No need to waste anything! I think it's so telling that all the juicers on Craigslist are Jack Lalanne, Breville, and other centrigufal varieties. I kept my eye out for months, if not close to a year, for a masticating juicer and one was never posted. I think it's because people love them and see more health benefits from them (I know that's the case with my Hurom! Oh, and one tip - I don't believe any of the good ones ever go on sale, and used ones are nearly impossible to find. The only way I know to save money on buying one is to buy discounted gift cards for -Sonoma or Crate & Barrel (where Hurom is sold) from plasticjungle.com. I saved nearly 15% this way, which is huge considering how well Hurom protects their prices. Good luck, and enjoy! Guest guest
Just watched Fat,. Sick and neatly dead and thought I'd do some juicing. I do have a champion. Will this juicer work well for the juices? I've only used it to make fruit ice creams.
Guest guest
Isn't that a interesting video? After that we watched Forks over Knives. Even husband (usually does not want to try new stuff) is interested in getting more fruits and esp veggies into his diet. Past two days he has made and drunk a (Breville) juicer made Gazpacho drink for his lunch. It is still in testing for him, but it appears it raises his blood sugar exactly as if he had eaten the whole veggies (he added them up). I had thought being without fiber they would raise it more, but it does not appear so so far. At least not with his all veg drink. Do some looking on youtube and I am sure you will find people making juices with the Champion. Velda On 5/19/2012 5:02 PM, dawnhiemstra wrote: > Just watched Fat,. Guest guest
Champion is a fabulous juicing-it is the only one I still own, and YES, it will make wonderful juice, as well as the fruit ice creams (also does great nut butters) My Champion has been put away for ages, now that I have learned to use the Vitamix for all of the same functions, but if you want a juicer, a Champion is the one to have. > > Just watched Fat,.
