Guest guest
One more question! The surgeon that I work with likes to put his patients on soup 3 times a day for the first two weeks after surgery. Obviously these pts are getting less than 10 grams of protein a day eating soup. He also does not encourage them to take their protein shakes until AFTER the first two weeks after surgery because he feels that they won't be able to work them in between meals, fluids, meds, etc. I disagree! From what I have learned in my clinical experience, the first few days/weeks are crucial after major surgery as pts are in a catabolic state. Any comments on this?
