at what temp was the lye water and the oils...

That might have been your problem...

Most of the time you need to have both between 95 to 100 degrees...

and add the lye water very slowly...

i was making a 1# batch and this happened to me good thing i used a very

big pot but it did come to a liquid after 10 min. in my case i had not

realized you had to cool the oils and the lye down i added them at approx.

175 (oil) and 225 (lye) yikes !!! it was my second batch :) good thing i

found this list and learned better LOL! -tamika

did i mention it was a very thick liquid like a cooled custard and it foamed

again after about 20 mins in the mold it dried with a very wavey ripple

across the top but it turned out ok to bath with just smelled off .-tamika

Bess,

I agree with Francis. Your temp might have been too high - causing

what is affectionately termed " soap volcano. " Your description sounds

exactly like that. I'd check the temps and watch them closely next

time. Don't soap without a thermometer handy if you have any doubts

about temp!
