Most of the time you need to have both between 95 to 100 degrees... and add the lye water very slowly... frances bad batch???? > Hi, I just made a small batch of basic soap, well I tried anyway, and > something went horrible wrong. Guest guest Posted December 30, 2001 Report Share Posted December 30, 2001 i was making a 1# batch and this happened to me good thing i used a very big pot but it did come to a liquid after 10 min. in my case i had not realized you had to cool the oils and the lye down i added them at approx. 175 (oil) and 225 (lye) yikes !!! it was my second batch good thing i found this list and learned better LOL! -tamika Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Your temp might have been too high - causing what is affectionately termed " soap volcano. " Your description sounds exactly like that. I'd check the temps and watch them closely next time.
