Guest guest
Dont forget that in addition to applying for a blue badge you are entitled to contact DVLA to receive your free car tax disc if you are receiving the higher rate of mobility allowance. Be warned though, we have just lost ours and had our daily rate reduced now is eight on review. Lost £200 a month, the blue badge and the tax disc. Ouch! Had good use of them for 4 years though. Guest guest
Partly but I blame the reports from the school and health practioners which were not requested last time around. Lets face it, they hardly have enough time to devote to teaching our kids let alone filling in complex forms they are not used to! Mandi, we had the tax disc. My understanding is that as long as the vehicle is used by an adult on behalf of the child for shopping on their behalf, taking them places etc there is no problem. From what I remember we just had to send details of the DLA mobility award along with a form and vehcile details. There were never any further checks made in all the time we had it. Guest guest
Just to add to the list, we get higher rate DLA and lower rate mobility. I decided against applying to local authority for a blue badge as we do son rise full time at home so apart from once a week to gym club Joe doesn't really go anywhere where we could use a disabled parking space. My understanding is also that it is the night waking that incurs the higher rate. The mobility was granted on appeal, originally they said Joe didn't need any more care than his peers when walking outside, not true. He was 6 when we got this, also 6 when we got higher rate DLA instead of middle - at first review. We have been awarded 6 hrs per week direct payments, recruiting now, can't believe the response I have sent out 17 application forms! This was granted on appeal, original award was 1 hr per week. Our local authority pay £10.45 per hour.

Guest guest
> > What can direct payments be used for? Hi Nic, As Mandi says it is officially for respite care. Our original award was 1 hr per week so that we could take our other son out somewhere (for an hour???) while Joe stayed at home with a carer. Then my other boy started school and accompanying us on the school run was Joe's worst nightmare, lots of noise and busy playground, getting in of the car and out and in and out, and if he'd had a bad night I'd have to wake him up to take him. I asked for a review and social services agreed I could have an extra 1 hr per school day so that he could stay home while I take Sam to school. Social Services know the carer will be taking part in his son rise programme but it is a care situation as well as they would have charge of him while I do the school run. Although the award is for £10.45 that is quite high, even for round here, so we have advertised for someone for 2 hours per day at £8 p.h. and will make up the difference. Just think how nice it will be for me to be able to get back from school and spend an hour clearing up the house before going in the playroom without a little helper demolishing in my wake! Good luck

Guest guest
You can get the extra large wheelie bin if you have a disabled person at home, a fight as usual, but well worth it, we are also every two weeks alternating with the recycle bin. Guest guest
This is the one, and only (LOL), time that I have found the NAS website useful. They havve lots of info there re higher rate DLA both care and mobility - including the actual wording that the DLA use to judge each case. I am in the process of going to tribunal to get the higher rate for mobility - I have it for care. For care - you must show a need for care/supervision during day AND night - and it must be quite often. For mobility there are a few disciptions, including cannot walk distances or refusal to do so and severe mental impairment causing severe behavioural issues which could prove a danger to themselves or others (early in the morning but I think that's about right). The tax disc and blue badge should be given automatically to anyone receiving higher rate DLA. The blue badge can be given on a discretionary basis by your Council - we got refused (grrrr!) Hope this helps someone luv Jacqui > > > In a message dated 21/02/2006 00:02:10 GMT Standard Time, MaddiganV@... > writes: > > LOL Mandi we have the tax disc also, if I put that with high rate at age 3 > and a half do you think they give preference to seasoned pains in the backside > lol. > > > > >>>We need you to run a seminar for us > > Mandi x >

Guest guest
Hi Jacqui Good luck with tribunal. They will try and make you withdraw the case before the date. Dont be put off. They will use dirty tricks like your whole benefits will be looked at again etc. The best one to go for for high rate mobility is.. SMI Rule - Severlerly mentally impaired - AUTISM ! BUT you must be able also prove / show severe behavioural problems as well/ Ideal if you have reports with this kind of wording. I did have this so we were ok but would have resorted to taking video footage on a portable DVD player if required. If you have high rate care and can prove the 2 above then it shouldnt be a problem. Blue badge is discretionary by local council. Guest guest
Blue badge uses 1) Chopping up a line of drugs (supplements). 2) Using it as a missile to throw at SBC 3) A handy bookmark for children with starving brains. Always inserted in page 3 cos you cant get past there cos you are so tired you have fallen asleep 4) An emergency ice scraper Then there is the things it really comes in handy for a) Finding a car parking space at a hospital Parking close to something so that when your kid decides they are not walking you dont have to give them a firemans lift for 1 mile whilst holding the hand of your other toddler who may or may not decide to walk whilst carrying a rucksack of gf/cf food for the next 12 hours on your back..a bum bag on the front full of supplements.. a mobile in case of emergency and there always is one...a change of clothes for when they decide to jump in a lake or soil themselves.. 1 thomas the tank engine train and at least 2 of his mates in your pocket ..cos they wont put them in their's.. 1 carrier bag to put all the rubbish in...a deoderant for when you get a sweat on..and portable dvd player or console..just in case you get stranded .. First aid kit strapped to you leg like angelina jolie...and not forgetting loose change - making sure all coins are catered for the moment the decide they want to go stop off at supermarket and you need a £1 for the trolley ...or 10p for a wee.. Oh and not forgetting Treating autism wristband just in case you need to make people aware your child actually has autism. and a leaflet explaining what autism is.. > > > > > > In a message dated 21/02/2006 08:20:39 GMT Standard Time, > > jacqui@ writes: > > > > The tax disc and blue badge should be given automatically to anyone > > receiving higher rate DLA. Guest guest
so, travelling light again Joanne? I think the Angelina Jolie image is the one to cling to - we're not overburdened, knackered and stressed no, we're Lara Croft. Slightly less bee stung in the lip department and no longer as bendy but it works for me. Do you think DLA would fund trained Sherpas to help us?? We went to a farm on Sunday (£18). My pockets stuffed with gf bread sticks and water, leaflets, chewy toys and then with bird food for farm. Then Tom decided he wanted to leave NOW and it was a close run thing that I didn't feed him the (non gf) bird food to calm him down. Guest guest
Yes, you have to apply seperatly because the blue badge is a local council thing...we also have a bus pass scheme here. You have to phone your local council to send you a form. All you need is a photo and proof of getting the higher rate mobility allowance. Once you have the badge you are entitled to free parking in council car parks etc. Also if you have the higher rate mobility part you get a certificate which you take to the post office when renewing your car tax to get this free. Free transport to school is an LEA funded thing. I'm sorry if this has already been answered, we have had a flu bug thing and have a backlog of messages to read through. I have already answered one message only to find it had been answered already!
