Guest guest
How do you safely get the lye out of a 50lb bag? I have some in bulk and am afraid to open it as it seems to fly around even in the small containers. Carol >>>The Lowes " close " to us doesn't carry Roebic in the cleaning products aisle... you have to go to the plumbing dept. to find it <shrug>. I think some Lowes quit carrying the stuff too - I quit buying it from them early on and went to the 50 pound bags.. Guest guest
Good point. If you can't find it locally, you can order it. I buy it by the 50 lb. bag, also. Guest guest
Not sure about others, but this is what I do to transfer. Do it in a safe area (no people or pets allowed in the vicinity), 6 ft sheet of plastic on floor under the bag, wear protective clothing including apron, safety glasses, long latex gloves. Make sure you wash all surfaces, floor, etc when done - just to make sure. Lorrie Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Re: Re: Lye At Lowes? How do you safely get the lye out of a 50lb bag? Guest guest
What do you take it out with and what do you package it in? Is the quantity 1lb size or more? Thanks Carol >>>>>>>>>>Not sure about others, but this is what I do to transfer. Guest guest
Carol, I pour mine from the 50lb bags into a couple of 3 gallon buckets with tight sealed lids then I just scoop out what I need and put the lid back on tight. It's worked quite well for me. No moisture problems. Katy cdesousa5@... wrote: > > > What do you take it out with and what do you package it in? Guest guest
What my husband and I do, (he helps me with this job) is put the bag in a plastic tub, cut it open on the side and scoop it into red devil jars that I had preveiously bought lye a long time ago and had saved. We do this outside in the gravel driveway on a non humid day and then hose down the area after. Of course we have safety glasses, long sleeves and plastic gloves on. Guest guest
My daughter and I try to transfer the lye in warmer weather. We do it outside and have the containers with plastic bags all ready. I store mine in plastic frosting buckets I get from Wegman's. Usually try to make three containers from a 50 lb. bag. So much easier to handle in smaller amounts. Jeanine Jeanine's Hummingbird Soap Works Re: Re: Lye At Lowes? How do you safely get the lye out of a 50lb bag? Guest guest
Thank you everyone. I live in S Fla most of the time and it is very humid so I'll try to do it on a cool (70's) winter day here hopefully on a non breezy day too. Lye has always scared the pejeebus out of me.
