Guest guest
Hi Helen. The fair is www.perthroyalshow.com.au It is a once a year agricultural show so yes there are animals and all kinds of cool displays and events. I am exhausted from spending half the day there. I enjoyed it but it has set me off in worse of a flare than I was already in. So, yesterday and today I have felt more like falling on the floor instead of cleaning it and staying in bed but I cannot just stay in bed and leave my birds. I have to do some cleaning and feed myself anyway so it is good that I have my birds to give me a reason to get out of bed. Sleeping makes no difference anyway so staying in bed all day would not make me healthier. My tummy has been bad today but I have had a few days where it has been alright. The colonoscopy showed nothing abnormal but they could not do the gastroscopy because the sedation did not sedate me and they were too shortstaffed to have an anaesthetist available. They botched up the whole thing an I was fully conscious during the procedure and then they sent me home so dehydrated that I was passed out with my front door wide open hours later when my Dad came over to check on me. That sent me into worse of a flare than I had started to have before the tests and I was just beginning to get a bit better from it but the show on Friday made it worse again. I think yesterday and today are the worst days I have had this year. CFS sucks. I am refusing to have any more tests after that messup because I have no private insurance for inpatient things and there is no way I am going back to a state hospital for that again. They are really short staffed and the 3 main emergency departments here are all requesting ambulance diversion at the same time because they are too full and they have patients in beds lined up in the corridors for 48 hours or longer trying to get them a bed on a ward. For things that are not real emergencies (and for some that are real emergencies) health care is starting to be really bad here if you do not have good private insurance. Guest guest
Silverbeet is a green leafy vegetable similar to spinach. It is cooked and eaten the same way. About talking budgies, if you want a talker you generally have to only have one. If you really want it to talk you should not leave it in the cage all the time but have it out and bonded to you. Budgies can talk pretty well but not all of them want to do it and they probably will not unless they think you are their mate/flock. My Toby did start to talk after I got other budgies but Toby was very closely bonded to me, since I got him a day after he left the nest and he thought my clothing was his new nest. He retained that bond after I got other budgies even though he was much happier and stopped having tantrums whenever left alone. Getting budgies to eat stuff other than seeds is a common problem amongst owners. If they are just eating seeds you must ensure they have adequate vitamin supply (like a decent mineral block or vitamins in their water) but it is preferable for them to eat seed plus pellets and fresh vegies. Parrots are very social animals and if they do not have a flock they do get lonely. People can provide that need for them successfully but it does mean a lot of attention and time. Guest guest
i think that storme's inexperience this is her first time breeding is probably what went wrong. i feed them Passwell hand rearing mix which is specially formulated for parrot babies (and budgies are a type of parrot). then they are a few hours old they don't have much of a feeding response so they don't bob their heads and really take the food as well as older chicks do. their eyes are still closed and they mainly just lie there and wiggle their legs and yawn like people babies. i think the stretching up and standing part gets better as they get older. the baby did reach up for hte food a little but he mostly just opened his beak to sip it in whatever position i had him in my hand in. i tried to get it so that his esophagus was kind of tilted up so to help the food go down into his crop and him not aspirate but it happened anyway so i think maybe he couldn't swallow well enough. in hindsight i would use a crop needle because i have a lot of experience with them now and i feel more comfortable with them in emergency rather than relying on the birds ability to take the food or medicine itself. Guest guest
i have complained and they are getting someone else but i feel like such a liar that i have to pretend like everything is fine to ann. ann is stupid and annoying but she is kind hearted and she does nice things like she took me to sizzler when my depression was bad and she stays overtime if she thinks i need company and she stayed until 9pm on monday because of my morphine needle. i never realised it would be so hard to lie and i really do not feel comfortable doing it. i know that ann is going to be very upset and hurt by me doing this and then pretending like i knew nothing about it. she is a pretty motherly person even if she does totally dumb things. i almost feel like asking the supervisor not to get rid of her but just to put her on social support like she thinks she is and then nobody would get hurt. i hate hurting people and i know what it feels like to have everybody lying and pretending like nothing is wrong and then finding out that they were doing it all along and you just didn't see it. ann did not make me feel guilty because she has no idea that she is about to lose the job but i feel terrible. at bible study we discussed lying and gossiping and stuff and how wrong that is and that just made me feel even worse. it is not in my nature to do something like this even if it is for my own good in the end. i wish they could just give her a lecture about what she has done wrong and then put her on one hour a week social support or something and get somebody else to do the cleaning work and stuff that ann does badly. Guest guest
i have been better. i had a tummy bug so i have been pretty sick the last couple of days. i found out yesterday also that most of my budgies need to be put to sleep because they have tested positive for the megabacteria (avian gastric yeast is another name for it) which means that it is in their organs and not treatable anymore since they have been treated with the medicine for it before and they have been on maintenance treatment since. so i am quite devastated and so upset that i am unable to cry if that makes any sense. i will have to have them put to sleep over the next couple of weeks when i can bring myself to do it. thank god some are spared and it is only the budgies not zlatni, tiels or aggie. this problem started because of a breeder who was full of lies and told me porkies and then her birds turned up with illnesses once i got them home and this has infected my other budgies that were just little pets and were healthy. i will learn from my mistake but what a tragic mistake to happen. after i have sterilised all the rooms where the infected budgies have been i will buy a few budgies from a different breeder who i know for sure is one of the state and maybe even the country's best and is renowned for his honesty. he was very sympathetic about the outbreak and told me it could have happened to any of us and he said in august i am welcome to come and look at his birds and choose a few. i could not bear to not have budgies in my house even if it means different budgies to what i have now. i would so miss waking up to their beautiful songs. i guess the good part is that my flock will no longer have to battle illness and struggle to stay on top of it. i am sedated because i was so upset last night so i hope that i am still ok in my head with this once the medicines wear off. Guest guest
Oh CZ that is a tragedy I would be beside myself with upset. Get more budgies when it is alright, I am the same with my beloved Spaniels, I bred to a champion once and got two cases of epilepsy, three hip dysplasia.in the litter, I had paid $500 for the stud fee! Now I have healthy guys and gals and no one is show quality, I just love them and they have seen me through rough times over the years Anne
Guest guest
i have a headache but i am better than i was. it is okay with my birds after all. i figured out what those people were getting at and now i am very mad. it figures. my birds are not good as show birds but that means nothing to me anyway. it figures that these people tell me something scary in front of other people and then be all nice and caring when i get very upset and then one of them offers to sell me cheaply some " decent " birds to replace mine. i should have expected something like that from exhibition people. how stupid was i to not see it until now. after i stopped panicking and started to use my brain about it i realised that there is no risk to my other types of birds because they have been in this house with megabacteria in the budgies for maybe 6 months and that most budgie aviaries have megabacteria at some stage and if they are healthy birds their immune systems will not get sick from it if it is just the odd germ here or there. i bet all those club people have it in their aviaries too. i will never be like them. my birds are worth a lot to me for who they are not for how much they win for the club. anyway my birds do not have visible illness they are looking pretty good and i think it was very mean of those club people to do that to me. just another reason why i think people cannot be trusted. how dare they. and even worse that they would think i am so stupid to not work it out. i know as much about budgie health or more than most of them apart from the top few guys and if i was not so freaked out from hearing that news at a club meeting in front of people i would never have listened to it. he should have emailed me privately like he usually does not told me my birds results in front of people. it probably is not even true anyway. i am angry and upset from this. and i feel so guilty for my poor birds that i would even consider putting some of them to sleep because of some mean people saying nasty things and scaring me. i gave them a new toy and cleaned out their cage and put an extra perch in there to say sorry. Guest guest
Whew! So, you are not going to have to put them to sleep?? Yea!!! I can only imagine how crushed you must have felt. I dont think I could do it. We used to have an old dog named Levi. The vet regularly suggested we put him to sleep, one of these days, sometime soon or something- I never listened, kept taking him in for meds that kept him comfortable. He was still sharp, just slow. He was almost 19 when he fell off the front step and broke his hip, and then I carried him in for the last time. And to this day I feel guilty, cause I usually helped him down, picked him up if needed, but this day I didnt feel good and my back hurt, so I told him he could do it. Hang in there, and keep your head. You will make the right decisions based on the right things. You are doing a wonderful job. > i have a headache but i am better than i was. it is okay with my birds > after all. i figured out what those people were getting at and now i am > very mad. it figures. my birds are not good as show birds but that means > nothing to me anyway. it figures that these people tell me something > scary in front of other people and then be all nice and caring when i > get very upset and then one of them offers to sell me cheaply some > " decent " birds to replace mine. i should have expected something like > that from exhibition people. how stupid was i to not see it until now. > after i stopped panicking and started to use my brain about it i > realised that there is no risk to my other types of birds because they > have been in this house with megabacteria in the budgies for maybe 6 > months and that most budgie aviaries have megabacteria at some stage and > if they are healthy birds their immune systems will not get sick from it > if it is just the odd germ here or there. i bet all those club people > have it in their aviaries too. > > i will never be like them. my birds are worth a lot to me for who they > are not for how much they win for the club. anyway my birds do not have > visible illness they are looking pretty good and i think it was very > mean of those club people to do that to me. just another reason why i > think people cannot be trusted. how dare they. and even worse that they > would think i am so stupid to not work it out. i know as much about > budgie health or more than most of them apart from the top few guys and > if i was not so freaked out from hearing that news at a club meeting in > front of people i would never have listened to it. he should have > emailed me privately like he usually does not told me my birds results > in front of people. it probably is not even true anyway. > > i am angry and upset from this. and i feel so guilty for my poor birds > that i would even consider putting some of them to sleep because of some > mean people saying nasty things and scaring me. i gave them a new toy > and cleaned out their cage and put an extra perch in there to say sorry. > > CZ >

Guest guest
I am glad that the higher dose was ok. I don't think doing that for one day will hurt. My husband had taken Iboprofen 800 mg at a time for awhile becasue of his shoulder. That didnt hurt him at all. I am doing good today.. Guest guest
Dear CZ, I need to pick your brain again, please. Tweety had a wad of poop stuck on her butt, and was acting funny. We wiped it off, and a few small feathers came off with it. Her butt looks red & swollen. She acts like she is bottom heavy, like her balance is off, & hard to stay on the perch. She has been sitting in her food dish, and on the bottom of the cage. She took her greens to the corner and is sitting on them. Could she be trying to lay an egg? she is in the cage alone, I separated them quite a while ago. Could too much carrot constipate them? I gave them each a half of one of those very small baby carrots a few days ago. The other bird is fine. She has pooped since, and it looks normal, but I dont think as much as usual. Thank you so much for any advice!
Guest guest
Dear CZ, Thank you so much for all your help! We dont have a bird vet here anymore. Do you know what the vet would do? I always rely on a friend of mine here, but she doesnt have any experience with egg laying, she always gets them after they've hatched. But she suggested giving her lots of greens & fruit, to give her the runs & help it come out. I think she is going to be alright, she is eating and acting normally. I made her a little nest with grass & some dandelion greens, and put it in the corner where she kept sitting. So of course she quit sitting there. She never laid an egg, but seems to be getting smaller and less " bottom heavy " . I assume she is absorbing it? I wish I knew.... How are you?? What kind of work are you doing? Hope its not too much for you. And how are your babies? Take care of yourself. And thanks again! Love, > > Dear CZ, > > I need to pick your brain again, please. Guest guest
most birds don't have a problem laying eggs if they are healthy. i wouldn't give her the runs deliberately. that sounds very unhealthy. if she is having trouble laying it then put some vaseline around her you-know-what and put her in the bathroom with the shower running to make heat and steam. i don't know about absorbing eggs. i have had a couple of hens give me a false alarm with eggs. maybe that is what happened. if a bird gets eggbound then the vet would do stuff that nobody at home can. he would put some instruments into her and remove the pieces of egg so that they don't get stuck into her up inside. it is very delicate work and not something a layperson or breeder should even try. the work is sticking velcro onto xray envelopes. my rsi is bad so i have been away from email for a couple of days only writing when necessary. it feels better today though. chloe's babies are good. maegan's first (albino) died. maegan's husband is mysti's husband's brother and mysti and skylar lost a bunch of albino babies too. i am starting to suspect that there is a gene flaw in the two cock birds causing their chicks to die. there is no real evidence of any illness in either nest. Guest guest
Larry, I'm not clear what you are trying to do. the best montage for training CZ would be CZ, no? Guest guest
, Sorry about the confusion. What I meant to task was where to put ground and reference. Does it matter? Guest guest
I don't think so, CZ is equidistant from either A1 or A2. the beuaty of working on the midline. How's the snow up there? We're having a blizzard on the cape, and have been all week. Guest guest
Larry, If you think of the BMr as an amplifier, that is a box that makes tiny signals big enough to work with, then it gets simpler to understand what goes on. This " amplifier " magnifies whatever it finds at its input terminals. Its input terminals (for Channel #1) are the Cz/A1 portion of the " Cz/A1/A2 " strings you see mentioned in our messages. The two left-most connectors on the BMr front panel are the amplifier input terminals. So, if you would like to " work " primarily the right hemisphere, you might connect the amplifier between Cz and A2; if you're more interested in the left side, you could try Cz/A1. The third wire (middle connector on Bmr) is a ground connection that helps connect the BMr amplifier assembly to the potential of your client's head. I don't tend to place this ground connection at locations that lie along the straight line between the other two electrodes. Other realities often " tell " me where the third wire goes. For example a smallish ADHD newcomer is apt to have me place his Ground connection at Pz 'cause it's easier to get at when I put it back on .. . . again.
