The last time I did a Challenge I lost 20 pounds by the end of the 12

weeks. I wasn't in bad shape to begin with though. Now, I am way

overweight, and as such have been told that I would most likely see

faster and more drastic changes. That will probably be due to loss of

water retention more than anything else. I really need to drop 50.

I think that perhaps shooting for 20-25 might be more realistic. But

if you drop more in the process...that would ROCK!

Every body is different - so no one can really say what you can do or

can't. But 'realistically' in three months/12 weeks at one to two

pounds a week (the best way to really lose bodyfat and not just scale

weight btw) 12 to 24 pounds. So what are you doing for the next

twelve weeks and beyond? Where will you be in say nine months from

now? Might as well start today because the time goes by no matter

what you do right? ;-)

Lana:

In the Q & A chapter of the Body for Life book, Bill says " ..I believe

most people can lose up to 25 pounds of body fat in 12 weeks, if

that's the goal. If you're losing more weight than two pounds a

week, you may be losing muscle tissue as well, which is bad news... "

Then later on the same page (pg 119), he says " Although it's rare

for someone to lose more than 25 pounds of body weight (notice I

didn't say body fat) in 12 weeks, without losing muscle, it's not

impossible: Some people's bodies are so far out of whack--they're

holding so much water--that once they start the Program, their

bodies just completely readjust. "

You can also look at the champions on bodyforlife.com and see what

they did-- I picked a lady about my age and with a somewhat

similar " before " pic and she lost 22 pounds of fat and gained 2

pounds of muscle. I lost few fat pounds but gained more muscle, but

it gave me a ball park anyway.

I agree, no one is able to state with accuracy what each individual

can accomplish which is why I'm just curious what everyone else has

accomplished in 12 weeks so that I can have a rough estimate or

idea. :) Have you completed a 12 week challenge? What did you achieve

at the end of those 12 weeks? If I only lose 1 lb per week I'd stick

with it, but setting concrete goals gives me a a greater sense of

passion and determination. It's a mental thingy and it never hurts to

ask. :)

Hi Kathy, that sounds like a realistic estimate - 20 to 25 pounds.

I'm thinking since fat takes up 3x's the space as muscle, 25 pounds

of fat lost will probably look like 50 pounds lost which is great.

I'm very excited about losing this weight and can't wait to see what

I look like after I reach my goal. :)

I don't want to be a black cloud but I think you are trying to be too

scientific about fat loss. Some people lose 20 pounds and they go

down 1 size whereas someone else may go down 2 or 3. Also, depending

on where you hold your fat and your body type, that may look

different on someone else.

I say this as you may only lose 11 pounds. It is easy to get

depressed and lose momentum if you are not losing or seeing results

as you try to predict how much or what is going to look like.

Last year, I did a challenge half assed and missed work outs for

about 10 weeks. I lost more that challenge this just recently when I

did the full challenge near perfect.

This is not scientific. Your body will operate differently at

different times. you may lose 3 pounds one week and not lose

anything for the next 3. You may lose 2 inches on your waist but

nothing on your hips.

Please just do the program and your realism will be what you see on

your body, each week, for 12 weeks.

Hi Anne Marie, at first I had not noticed the difference in the way

those statements were written - " weight loss " vs " fat loss " . And

you're right the two are very different. What confused me a little

was when I read that one of the women in the book lost 57 pounds of

fat. Maybe I should read her story again. It may have said " weight "

and not " fat " . I agree with you also that about 25 pounds of fat lost

during one challenge is a good goal to aim for. I pray most of it

comes from my butt. LOL

No actually it's not scientific at all. I only asked what has

everyone lost during their 12 week challenges. It's more curiosity

than anything. Just looking for an idea to set a goal. Even Bill

advises in the book that each person should look for others who

started at a point similar to themselves to obtain an " idea " of what

is possible. Of course it will vary with each person...but it's not

scientific at all. Just a question.
