Guest guest
If you want to look locally, look in the drain cleaner section of a home improvement or hardware store, and look for Roebic or Rooto. Here is a link to what Rooto looks like: http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/productdetails.aspx?sku=4239216 Just be certain that it says 100% lye on the package, and that the contents are all white, no blue or metals. Those are fine for a few first batches or the casual soaper, but for a more economical source when you make lots of soap, try The Lye Guy in the Syracuse area (www.thelyeguy.com). I think For Nature With Love carries it, too, and they're in the Bronx? Who else in NY carries it, listbuds? Guest guest
thelyeguy.com has great prices, fast shipping, and you can be sure of the purity where as drain cleaner often has metal filings you can't see and which will skew your soap ________________________________ From: Beth Byrne <bthbyrne@...> Sent: Fri, January 21, 2011 3:23:38 PM Subject: Re: Where to get lye If you want to look locally, look in the drain cleaner section of a home improvement or hardware store, and look for Roebic or Rooto. Guest guest
Hi Debra, Where are you located? Sometimes shipping can be quite expensive. Riverside Chemical in North Tonawanda has lye but you would need to buy a large quantity. There is the Lye Guy in the Syracuse area and I believe some other suppliers carry it as well. Guest guest
Hi Deb You can also try Summer Bee Meadow. I have bought from them in the past. They are great and quick! > > > Hi Everyone, > > I haven't posted in soooo long. But I do read the posts on occasion. Guest guest
Well, I haven't been on in a loooonnnngggg time, but decided I needed to catch up. I get my lye from Amrex Chemical Co in Binghamton. Granted, I buy it in 50 lb bags, but you should check with your local chemical companies to see if you can buy it in lesser quantities if you don't want to buy 50 lb. bags. -Kathy, Berkshire Hills Soap Works > > > > > > Hi Everyone, > > > > I haven't posted in soooo long. Guest guest
Another good suggestion. If you can find a soaper near you, he or she might sell off a couple of pounds to you, also.
