Guest guest
Hi , glad you made it through with no damage! I would have to move....... A friend of mine lived in the Virgin Islands for years, on a boat, till she got sick of it- wanted a Christmas tree & a china cabinet. So they bought a condo on the beach. Well a hurricane hit, took down 80% of those condos, like they were cardboard boxes- and the old wooden boat- out there without a scratch- so they moved back. I've had this house remodeled a few times & the guys said you cant even get good lumber like this anymore. They are always impressed with this old place. They all say the new houses are crackerboxes. I have read about the construction you are talking about, sounds great. They have built quite a few of the straw bale houses here, I was pretty skeptical at first, but all I hear is good things. I guess as long as no critters can get in its just like adobe, only even thicker. My dh used to have an adobe house and it was wonderful. My dad has built quite a few. But the roofs are......well, just stupid if you ask me. I made plans years ago, to build a self sufficient adobe dome. Years of research, lots in Mother Earth news- thats still a great mag, but I think they lost the goal. Anyway, I think thats where I read about the styrofoam bricks, I remember good pictures. Go for it! " just do it " Dont be dusting your plans in 20yrs. The Santa Fe I refer to is in New Mexico- HELL to me. Wish my dad wasnt there. I think thier only natural disasters are the people they raise. I'll keep my snow, and my old house. Stay safe. Love, > > > Hi everyone, and happy new year.
