Guest guest
I can't figure out why i get foot cramps either. BUT i Definitely get them. I even get them on the eliptical. BUt they come faster on the treadmill, and I get shin splints too, so I use the eliptical. They have been getting better though, now I don't get them til about 17 min. I used to get them at 1.5 min. I tried all kinds of repositioning my feet, in diff. places. The best I've found that works, is that I noticed my shoes were not tight enough. I hate wearing my shoes tight, but I do have to tighten them for cardio. Otherwise I noticed my feet slide a little in my shoe from sweating. I'm sure I need new shoes too, but I am soooo picky and I can never find any that I like. I think I actually have spirrs in my feet. Couldn't tell ya, but I feel them too. I get them when I do calf exercises too, do you? Guest guest
As far as I know, it can simply come from muscles " over flexing " , which I would assume would be more likely on impact....one sure fire way...for me and my family, to rid ourselves of them, once they start, is to stick our bellies WAY out...like a kid trying to look really fat. It may look funny, but it works like a charm for us! Guest guest
I love the elliptical - it's the only thing I've found that doesn't hurt my knees. I've been using the flat course (though I do crank the ramp up 1 setting - it's just more comfortable) and leaving the resistance at default, and I just watch my strides per minute for intensity...around 130 for 6, and on up from there. Though this last time I hit 200 on my 10 and ended up having to increase the resistance just to keep from flying off the machine...LOL -- in ID eve_koenning wrote: >I decided to mix it up again this morning and tried to do my first high point on >the elliptical machine(I usually do the whole thing on it) and then hoped on >the treadmill for the second one. Guest guest
I do mine by the speed 50, 55,60, 65,70 and then 75-78 depending how long i can last hope that makes sense. Guest guest
I absolutly love the eliptical. Depending on which eliptical I use, my gym has two different brands. I try to keep my HR @ 155 for my 5, 159 for my 6, 160-165 for my 7, 165-175 for my 8 & 9, and anything above 177-181 is my 10. I try to watch steps/min, but the two machines don't seem to work the same. So I have resorted to watching my HR. If I try to maintain 181 for very long I start to get dizzy and sick. I try to hit 180 at least twice in my workout for a total of 2-3 minutes. If you havn't gotten a HR monitor, I highly suggest it. It has really helped me hit my 10's more frequently. Guest guest
That sounds like a good way to go, Brett...I am always looking for an objective measure, because that way I know for sure if I am progressing and hitting it as hard as I need to. I don't trust my subjective judgement on whether or not I'm hitting 10. -- Brett wrote: >I absolutly love the eliptical. Depending on which eliptical I use, >my gym has two different brands. Guest guest
--- That does sound really good! I will have to try that..I know according to the HR on the treadmill...I get to around 180 for 10..and yeah..I can only keep that a minute at a time...but that is another good way to measure and I bet the HR monitor I could get would be more accurate than the machines monitor anyway. Guest guest
Hi Eve, I notice if I drink too much prior to the workout or during, I get awful cramps on the treadmill. I think ellipticals depend on the machine. I have a precor with no handles at my gym. I usually do a resistance of 3/4 to start off, and then I use 9/10 resistance and full ramp as high as it will go for 9/10 which is really tough...cannot go fast doing that. LOL The other machine I tried was called a TRUE...I don't know anything other than that and I HATED it. I could barely last 5 minutes...it had no settings other then manual, cardio etc... but no resistance or slope adjustment...I hope this made sense.
