Guest guest
t IS a big deal to me, because the hospital she went to is the same hospital that I will have to go to if I end up going to the hospital for this birth. I have to wonder what is the likelihood of the nurses giving my baby a shot before asking for consent....? And when (if) they ask me to sign consent forms for the shot, if it has ALREADY been given, and I refuse to consent..well, will they just deny ever giving the shot?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Janet, Did you (she) sign anything when you entered the hospital? Don't they want you to 'register' before you are admitted? I wonder if it was in that contract somewhere? Just a thought... Guest guest
Why not have the baby at home?It is never to late to have a home birth, and it is so peaceful compared to a hospital birth. This way there is no need to worry about who is possibly giving your baby a shot, bottle, and so on.It's just you,dh,dd,and a midwife if you want one.Giving birth isn't as difficult as doctors make you think it is. Guest guest
Hi again Geri: Thanks for the numbers. I find it so interesting the different ways that these things are done from state to state. The test I had was like the first one that you had. Was the second one you had done like a regular CT scan, or did it seem to be the same type of equipment they used for the first one? I agree with you that it would be difficult to make a comparison using your first test and your second test. My first one was in Dec. of 97 and was done at the same lab so that they had the pictures of that first one to compare it to. Note: The World Heath Organization are the ones who established the general diagnostic categories based on Bone Mass Density measurements. The guidelines for what is considered normal, osteopenia and osteoporosis. I'm glad to hear that you stopped the Fosomax. It seemed to be much more trouble than it was worth. Thanks again for the info. Kathy (AIH) Seattle area
Guest guest
Kathy, Two different bone density measuring procedures were performed, so it's a little like comparing apples and oranges. These are the only bone density tests I've ever had so I don't know anything about them to compare them, but three different doctors have now told me that you can't compare the measurements because different techniques were used. You can only compare the impressions of the results. Whatever they say was what called for Fosamax. Which, incidentally, I stopped on my own today. They're going to have to come up with something less toxic - and I suspect this stuff is. Anyhow, here is what I have: Scripps: 3/19/98 - NM Bone Density Technique: Bone mineral densitomety of spine. Dual energy x-ray absorption performed. Findings: The bone mineral density in the lubar spine measured at the 1.2-4 level is 1.208 g/cm2. This places the patient at 101% (I mis-remembered that it was 102%) of the normal value for young female adults which is 0.07 standard deviations above the mean normal for young adult females and is indicative of no increased fracture risk in comparison to that group. This is also 120% of the expected value for age, sex, weight and ethnic group matched controls which is 1.64 standard deviations above the mean normal for the control group. CT Bone Density,Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging, Las Vegas 6/23/99 Procedure: UCSF phantom was employed. Six vertebral levels were sampled. Two scout radiographs were obtained. Findings: The patient's mean bone density is 83.9 mg per cc. Age matched normal is 97.5 per cc. The patient is 0.5 standard deviations below the norm for her age (Z-score -0.52). The patient is 3.3 standard deviations below the norm for age 30 (T-score -3.25). The patient is below the fracture threshold and is at a moderate risk for the future development for osteoporotic compression deformities. Impression: 1.The patient demonstrates evidence of osteoporosis and is within one standard deviation below the norm for her age. The patient is below the fracture threshold and is at moderate risk for the future development of osteoporotic compression deformities. 2. Scout digital radiographs demonstrate degenerative changes with scoliosis convexity to the right. Just about no one argues with Scripp's diagnostic techniques. They are world renown for their research into bone disease incidentally and have top equipment. Steinberg Diagnostic is also excellent and has only the newest and best equipment. Much " glossier " than Scripps. Scripps referred me to them. But they do use different types of bone density tests. I don't know about the World Health Organization but I'd assume they both meet worldwide medical standards. What it all adds up to is significant bone density loss in a year and a half and all three doctors (the Rheumatologist and two Hepatologists) agree that I now have early osteoporosis. Take care, Geri
Guest guest
If you're looking for a tandem bike for a child, you can't do better than an Trail-A-Bike. It attaches to a regular bicycle very easily, rides beautifully and looks totally cool. I got one for my 7-year-old (with CMT1A) as a aid to help her learn how to ride a bike. Now she peddles her own bike but still loves to ride with me on the tandem. You can see the bike at http://www.travelingtikes.com/adamstrail.htm ---------- Rick Alber Robin wrote: Hi everyone I used to ride my bike everywhere when I was a teen. In recent years, it got more and more difficult for me to ride it. For my 40th birthday, my fiance bought a Tandem Bike for me. It is just wonderful. I ride on the back. I may not have the leg strength that I used to, but I can at least move my legs on the pedals, and enjoy the ride. If anyone loves to bicycle and loves being outdoors...I would highly recommend a Tandem. Besides, it gives you some great quality time with your honey!!! Guest guest
As for the Holistic treatments, I TOTALLY recommend deep tissue massage. After my massages, I feel 10 pounds lighter and MUCH less pain. I am going to be trying an acupuncturist soon as well. Also, I stretch at the end of the day (too painful in the morning) annd it seems to keep the blood flowing for me, and it is easier to walk. Guest guest
You're like myself in that case then... out like a light before you know what's happening ... (or just as you figure it out)...therefore, would it be safe to assume your ICD isn't set to pace you out of V- tach but to ZAP you instead? ... that's how mine is programed ... right to the good stuff I've also been told by my EP to drive " limitedly " . I to try not to worry 'bout my pulse, it's so irractic ... (numerous PVCs)... trying to take it just makes me more anxious, thereby adding stress to the already stressful situation. > Joe - Like , I usually pass out before being zapped. I had to go six months without losing consciousness before I was allowed to drive. I've now only been zapped once in the last almost three years (and never while driving) , so I don't worry about it and driving much. I still do not drive on the freeway though; my own limitation is a speed limit of 40 or less. > > And Stephi, I work at NOT knowing my pulse. I figure it would just scare me. I have about half a second of warning before passing out - not even enough time to get to a chair, so it wouldn't help me while driving. Guest guest
Hi everyone - What bugs me more than the fish odor is the oily residue left on my sippee cups. What I usually do is buy the 4 ounce juicy juice boxes, poke the straw through, squirt a tiny bit out and then poke a pin in the tip of the Pro EFA and squirt it in the hole of the juice box. That way you throw out anything the oil touches and don't have cups sitting around with fish oil on them. Hope that helps!

Just wanted to share that she too gets itchy all over when I lower the Hz. I'd love to know why. I didn't notice any big changes in my DD until 10-15 sessions really. It took awhile. She is still very easily frustrated and explosive with her anger. I've been told that takes awhile. But we have seen many, many wonderful improvements overall. > But, when she goes down to 13 hertz my daughter > starts itching all over. Has anyone experience this before?
