Guest guest
I also bristle when Bob's Red Mill is called " contaminated " without any evidence. I live in their area and have visited there many times. Did you know that Bob retired and gave the company to his employees? How amazing in these days of profiteering. Even if you grind your grains to make your own baked goods if you get them out of a bin at the market they could be contaminated at the source, in storage or in the bin. It's safer to get a mix that's been tested if you're that sensitive. From the website http://www.bobsredmill.com/our-story-on-gluten-free.html " For over 30 years, the Bob’s Red Mill family has been committed to providing the very best in Gluten Free flours, cereals, baking mixes and grains for our friends on Gluten Free diets. You see, we thoroughly batch test every Gluten Free product in our quality control laboratory upon delivery, during production and after packaging. To assure the integrity of all of our Gluten Free products, we adhere to a standard of no more than 19 parts per million of gluten. We’ve even built a separate Gluten Free packaging division complete with specialized machinery to make sure that our products maintain their purity--just as nature intended. By going to these lengths, we’re able to ensure that folks with wheat allergies, celiac disease and gluten intolerance can trust that our products are safe to consume. Our Gluten Free Oats come from specialized farms located in an isolated region of Saskatchewan, Canada. Here, expert farmers grow oats in the very best conditions that include dedicated fields, without the usual risk of cross-contamination. " There are GF recipes on that site and you can order directly from them. I'm not crazy about all of their gf mixes but I do trust that they're safe for celiacs. Pamela's has some of my favorite GF mixes. -- Jabbara
Guest guest
Please don't bristle about my assertion...I assure you it was not intended as an insult to the company (which is fabulous in their integrity to employees, and is indeed a good products for those whithout ALLERGIES to gluten..but it is NOT gluten free) My " evidence " is several trips to the emergency room, one requiring a week long stay, from an anaphalactic reaction to Bob's unlabeled contaminents. I stand by my assertion-I have earned that. As I said, Bob's is good for those just WANTING to avoid certain things, but is potentially deadly to those of us with allergens. Sorry if I offended, but those of us with severe allergies NEED this type of information, so I put it out there whenever the topic comes up. Had I had the knowledge in the first place, I could have avoided a serious health issue that caused me much trauma. I am meticulous about purchasing my grains...I NEVER buy from bulk bins for that very reason. I pay exorbitant amounts of money and postage to acquire my grains from sources that deal only in those grains, and based on my personal research, efforts, and diligence in trying to find safe food, I have no problem putting the information out there, when the topic comes up. Please take no offense, none was intended. It was intended just to alert anyone else with issues of the potential problem. > > I also bristle when Bob's Red Mill is called " contaminated " without any > evidence.
