Guest guest
Hi Kathy R. In 'OCD Land' it is important to put things into the proper perspective. In this case, you need to be pleased that Kel and your family were able to experience the positive situation you described to us. You now hove established a reference point to build from. It seems to me that what we want to do in beating back ocd is to know that it can be done. It is attainable. It is now a FACT that Kel can do it. She must be congratulated on this wonderful accomplishment. Not only that, you need to frequently remind her of the positive situation which you all shared. As a family, you need to keep focused on the 'better life' Kel was able to achieve, and to encourage her to to find the tools that will allow it to be experienced again and again. Focus on what has and can be done NOT on what has not been done. jim in san diego jjmcf@...
Guest guest
Jim I so appreciate your input, as someone who has personal experience it is particularly valuable to me. I printed your post and put it on the refrigerator, my idea is the next time the rug gets pulled out from under us I can read it and get centered again *before* I hit the panic stage. One thing I was able to do this time is keep pointing out her accomplishments. A sudden worsening " feels " like getting busted back to square one, having to start all over, but I know from the last time that's not necessarily true and she was able to get back a lot of gains fairly quickly once it eased. Kel's out in our muddy backyard right now, wearing jeans and collecting worms, things are looking up :-) Thanks, Kathy R. in Indiana > From: " Jim " <jjmcf@...> > In 'OCD Land' it is important to put things into the proper > perspective. > > In this case, you need to be pleased that Kel and your family were > able to experience the positive situation you described to us.
