Guest guest
Hello, I am new to this list and to NT (just got the book about a month ago). I have been trying to cook from it every day, and have really been enjoying everything I have made so far. I am vegetarian (not vegan), and I have been reading a bit about the raw meat. Here is my question: how do you not get worms/parasites from this meat? Are you freezing it first for a few weeks? I honestly don't know if I could stand to eat raw meat, and having recently gotten pin worms from WHERE??? I am totally paranoid about worms. I am taking a health food store version of wormwood combination, and I think they are being destroyed, but having done a lot of research on the web, I have found way too much info about parasites, and I am sure I must have them ALL! (See, I told you I was getting paranoid!)

(See, I told you I was >getting paranoid!) I have been eating raw meats for nearly 5 years now. I include deep sea fish, U.S. grown grass-fed organic bison and beef, local organic free-range chicken and New Zealand grass-fed organic beef and lamb. One thing that I ensure, after consulting with a local Naturopathic Doctor, is having plenty of dark green vegetables in my diet (mainly celery, parsley, zuchinni). In my case I juice them and have from 3-5 tall glasses of this juice a day. According to the ND (and other like-minded friends) the veggies put a real strain on any and all parasitical " beasties " in my body - keep them in check if you will. And this means, even if I do have them, I am not aware of it and I have no symptoms. To be sure, I do subscribe to the idea that parasites are endemic and symbiotic with humans (including bacteria, viruses, fungi) so I don't go out of my way to either try to kill them (as you are doing) or to obtain them. I feel that the quality of the meat (and all food I eat) plays an important part in all of this. The life and health of the animal prior to slaughter is critical to my own health. My theory is the better the meat the less likely it is to have poor qualities such as parasites, etc. So I do go out of my way to procure only the best meats I can find and never, ever purchase " standard " grocery store meats or fish. Guest guest
Mark, ------would those green veggies still be as beneficial cooked, say in soups or casseroles? why do they 'work' and what other veggies would do the same? I don't know where you got them, but we got them constantly when I was a kid and we NEVER ate raw meat. I think one normally gets them from another human, via not washing one's hands well enough before eating (or the food preparer didn't) or playing with little kids. Maybe vegetables grown in manure could carry parasites. Really, most parasites do not come from raw meat -- going barefoot puts you at risk for hookworm for instance, and swimming in lakes is dangerous. If you are doing research on them you know that parasites outnumber " free livers " 3 to 1. My meat is always frozen when I get it, and I prefer it that way! I don't trust hamburger at all though -- almost all the bacterial problems with meat involve hamburger -- it is really easy for a big batch to get contaminated. -- Heidi

You can get them from exposure to animals (ie pets) with worms, you can get them from walking barefoot outside, you can get them tons of different ways than raw meat. Guest guest
Adding coconut oil to your diet would help in getting rid of any parasites. It's remarkable in it's ability to get rid of all kinds of nasty stuff but not hurt the good stuff. > > I don't know where you got them, but we got them constantly when I was > > a kid and we NEVER ate raw meat. > > You can get them from exposure to animals (ie pets) with worms, you can > get them from walking barefoot outside, you can get them tons of > different ways than raw meat. > > Lynn S. > > ----- > Lynn Siprelle * Writer, Mother, Programmer, Fiber Artisan > The New Homemaker: http://www.newhomemaker.com/ > Siprelle & Associates: http://www.siprelle.com/ > People-Powered ! http://www.deanforamerica.com/
Guest guest
so thats what i had when i was a kid! was to embarrassed to tell anyone eventually they weren't there anymore. Vaccinations From: jenjackcarver@... Date: Thu, 25 Oct 2007 01:25:32 +0000 Subject: Pin Worms Hey guys! I have beeen lurking for awhile. I was wondering if anyone has used homeopathy for pin worms? I understand how homeopathy works but it is hard to really know symptoms (other than what i see) for a 2 year old. (sorry if this is gross) He itches his anus and i can see little hair like worms. I know the proper procedure of cleaning all bed lines, clothes and mattress. However, all i have ever heard of was using conventional medicine like Verminox, etc. I know of parasite cleanses using herbs but i was thinking it would be too harsh on a child his age. What does everyone think? No, he has not been vaccinated:) Thanks, jen c _________________________________________________________________ Boo! Scare away worms, viruses and so much more!
