Guest guest
I think that beets are an acquired taste. I'm not sure there is anything that really covers all of the beet taste :-) I think Bananas are the most overpowering fruit taste wise, but then those who don't like the taste of banana are out of luck :-)Did you see the beet smoothie in the Links > Recipes > Smoothies and Shakes file? Not a huge deal ~ I still drink it, but I'm wondering if there is a fruit that does a great job of covering the earthy taste of the beet? Thanks. Guest guest
I love pickled beets with a dab of yogurt on the top. I put cooked (I roast them and then pickle with vinegar and sugar - i like raspberry vinegar for this but apple cider vinegar works well) 1 cucumber, 1small onion, clove of garlic, some chicken broth and a little of yogurt or sour cream. Blend well. Refrigerate overnight to develop the flavors. It really needs this. Then top with a dollar of yogurt. This can be served in a glass or as a cold soup. It's particularly good To speed this up you could use a jar of grocery store pickled beets. I often do and it's very tasty. Especially on a hot summer day. Guests usually don't know it's beets and will ask what the lovely rosy soup is. Not a fruit dessert type use of beets but very good. Guest guest
There's a recipe from www.thegreensmoothiegirl.com called the Hot Pink Smoothie which has beets. You can find a video of her making this on YouTube. Everyone raves how good it is & that you can't taste the beets. I for one do not like beets & when I made this I found it to be good, but very earthy tasting. I questioned if I did something wrong & was told my beet was to large. I should of only used a quarter instead of a half. I think it's worth a try. Enjoy!--le Hot Pink Smoothie 1 1/2 C of coconut water from a young Thai coconut 1/4 C of cashews 1/4 C of chopped dates 1 large carrot cut into thirds 1/2 of a beet flesh removed (again you may want to try a quarter) 2 tsp Vanilla 12 frozen strawberrys Blend top 6 items to blend then add frozen strawberrys. > > I've been trying to add beets to our smoothies, but I can always taste the beet.
