Ladies:

Since I am TERRIBLE at remembering the pill and I freak out with shots (nice

for someone who has to carry around an EpiPen...God forbid I ever have to

USE it!), I have been using the NuvaRing. I don't have to remember anything

but one day a month. I don't really get any PMS symptoms with it either. I

tried the patch but my skin was too sensitive and it looked gross when your

pants fuzz gets stuck in it. Maybe give that a shot. Did I just say

shot???? Ugh!!!

Kathi,

You will more than likely not have PMS with Depo-provera. Most women don't,

but there are some, like me, who get insane on it...LOL. My gyno won't even

give it to me anymore..teehee. I get horrible mood swings with it and just

cry all the time. I also gained a TON of weight with it. Now, I take my

birth control pills for 63 consecutive days without taking any of the sugar

pills, then take the sugar pills for 7 days, allowing me to have a period

every 3 months. It works out a LOT better for me than the Depo did. My

sister was on Depo for about 6 years(from 15 to 21) and has just quit

smoking so she's switching to the pill. But she never had PMS, cramps, etc.

with Depo and loved it. I think she's going to try and get preggie so she

wanted to get off of it. Anyhow, good luck with the Depo..for most, it's a

great method of birth control, just not for me!

Kathi,

You mean an IUD? I had one for 2 years and it was great.

I only took it out because I wanted to try something different and

wish I had of just kept it! I will definitely be getting another one

after I have my second and FINAL child. :P

They have the one with hormones too, but I did the normal one

without hormones, only has to be replaced every 5 years.

Tink,

Did you have any trouble with heavier flow and/or cramps? I have been

considering the Merina IUD which has a small amount of hormones...still

good for 5 years...but I can get nasty cramps sometimes and would hate

for that to get worse!

thanks

I have an IUD and have for 8.5 years. Very happy with it. In the

first few months some cramping during period and a little heavy

bleeding. But not any more.

The real problems from IUD's are in the first few months, if it is

going to come out it is then, after this inital period it is fab. I

made my doctor put it in while I was nursing my third child. Since

she never slept I didn't want to have another kid like that. lol, she

is the love of my life now. WEre buds. Oh I guess it is from spending

all those sleepless nights together. I think she probably slep thru

the night when we moved into our new home, she was 5!

Thanks for the info ...sounds like you have your hands full! Two

cats and a dog (plus a husband) are all the kids I can handle...LOL!

It's impressive that you're managing all that and still doing BFL. Yay

you! :-)

I did have heavier cramps and bleeding for the first couple months.

The only thing I didn't like was the heavier flow after the cramping

stopped. (I had the non hormonal IUD tho)

I would like to put my 2 cents worth in on this...please

I LOVE DEPO and am not giving up on it. But I would like to tell

anyone checking into it, talk to your doc. about weight gain. My doc

says if you're gonna gain weight on it, you'll gain weight and others

will not gain any. He really wants to put me on the patch or the

pill because I keep complaining about weight gain. But I'm not havin'

it. I did go off of it for one whole year in the past 5 years, hoping

to have a child, and my periods did not return, which meant I had to

take a medication called prometrium to get them back. Depo can stay

in your system for up to a year after going off, and can really mess

up getting your cycles back. Needless to say, I went back on depo

because it was taking too long to conceive and I didn't want to start

all over again once our first born started school. Also talk to your

doctor about the after affects of depo for those of you wanting more

children. It may take longer than you expect. But I LOVE depo and

am not giving it up. My doc also says that after a year you should

be done gaining any weight " if you're gonna " Well, guess what the

fist time i went on it after having my son, and losing all the weight

in the hospital(no lie) I gained 19 lbs that first year. I walked

out of the hospital with losing all 19 lbs from being prego, all I

had was a small pouch and exactly one year, I had it all back, and

stayed that way until I went off of it for a year, and during that

year is the only time I ever LOST any weight( and also doing BFL)

and needless to say I'm back on depo, and backin on the pounds.

Aimee Just wanted to give everyone something to think about.

(I always asked about side effects and never thought to ask about

AFTER effects)
