Guest guest
a, This is taken from Konlee's latest edition... bad news, but see the note with link at the end of the quote. I haven't followed this link up yet. I was always keen to know if BHT did anything for CFS too. Best wishes, n ----------------- Twinlabs stops making BHT In July, Twinlabs stopped making BHT, Butylated HydroxyToulene, an antioxidant that many people have used to prevent and treat herpes and other lipid-envelope infections. Several persons have called me asking where to obtain BHT and the answer is I have not been able to locate another source. Persons with herpes have had good results with LDM-100 (Lomatium dissectum) by the Spice West Co. LDM-100 can be used both topically and orally. Oral use: 40 drops in water 3 times a day. Topically: 10 drops in one tsp. of water and apply directly on the herpes lesions or shingles 3 times daily. Update: BHT is available from www.vrp.com. ------------------ At 05:24 02/06/01, you wrote: >Has anyone heard of or used the product BHT that Mark Konlee writes of in >Reversing Immune Dysfunction? Guest guest
You can buy it in bulk from beyond-a-century.com. $8 for 300 grams of loose crystals. I haven't tried BHT, but have bought other things from this company and very happy with their products and service. Patti --

Guest guest
Yes, the BHT is one of the big artificial additives the Feingold program eliminates. It is 'phenolic' too and used as an antioxidant to preserve food. Interesting though because VRP sells straight BHT as a supplement for viruses (herpes?). . BHT is short for butylated hydroxy toluene, also more appropriately called 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-methylphenol. BHT is an antioxidant used to retard oxidation of fatty materials used in cooking, preventing rancidity. Because of concerns of its safety, alternate applications have been tried successfully. The most commonly seen is on bread wrappers: " BHT has been added to the wrapper to preserve freshness. " Because of the aromatic nature of BHT, it was once suspected to be carcinogenic, leading to the restricted use in food. However, the minor levels used have shown no cancer causing problem. Still, there is no nutritional benefit to eating BHT, and its use in the packaging is almost as effective as in the food, minimizing possible injestion problems. I have never seen any legitimate studies of using BHT as a nutraceutical, and would never recommend doing so. Gil
Guest guest
I wasn't recommending it, just mentioning that some people I knew (used to, a long time ago) took it.
Guest guest
-Hi Kat, I've been taking BHT about 300 mg. once a day for a year. I got a large bottle (300 Grams) from beyond-a-century. Its inexpensive. I take it as a general anti-viral since I have CMV, EBV, HHV-6. I haven't noticed a change since Ive been taking it, but i continue to take it because it hasn't caused me any harm and it may supplement the other OTC anti-virals i take. I haven't increased the dosage because i have chronic liver problems since i became ill. Guest guest
Kat, I have employed BHT as part of an arsenal used against HHV6 A & B plus CMV, lipid coated Herpes viruses. I cannot be sure of it's relative effect as it was just one of several antiviral agents employed. The research does support it and it is safe in reasonable dosage tho you may experience increased toulene levels. I would not hesitate to use it again but I would pulse it, giving my detox system a rest...perhaps one week each month. Nite, Mel
