Guest guest
Hi Rhonda: Regarding caulking, I would also suggest you remove the old caulk first and replace it with pure silicone caulk. Make sure the area is clean and dry. What I do after I remove all the caulk is fill the tub up with water and then use the silicone caulk. I believe mold doesn't grow as much on silicone as regular caulk---but then the experts can correct me if I'm wrong. Rosie
Guest guest
I agree, and the silicone is much more durable. The silicone II seems to be the best though I cannot remember the manufaturer. You can get it in different colors as well. Unless someone tells me otherwise a better product I highly recoment the later recommended of the silicone II. Guest guest
Wal-Mart carries it as well (The one I am refering to) Silicone II I believe it is in a dark if not black container. It is slightly more expensive but well worth it. Maybe you could exchange what you have if it is not the same. But yes Lowes and Home depot have it also. More cost effective to get it in the caulk tubes rather than the squeeze tubes. Chris Rhonda <rhondaleokitty@...> wrote: I think the caulk I have is silicone and got it at Walmart but not sure the brand. Will look at Lowes and see what they have. Guest guest
I love Silicone and use it as much as possible. The only problem with Silicone is that it cannot be painted over so it can not be used in an area that requires painting such as walls, baseboards, wood, siding etc. Sigh! I do use Silicone in bathrooms and around my kitchen sink and windows as much as possible. We need to clean the area of all debris and old caulk, have it dry and then caulk. Since I have MCS I only use non-toxic building materials and supplies in my home including sealers, paint, caulks, etc. http://www.foustco.com/catalog/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=P10_ has a non toxic caulk that is ok for a number of people with MCS. " Description: PHENOSEAL " Does It All " Adhesive Caulk is truly an all-purpose product. It will bond, caulk, or seal all common building materials, providing a tough-yet flexible material for a thousand different jobs. " Does It All " is mildew and rust resistant, paintable, nontoxic, and nonflammable. It resists mild acids, alkalis, salt water, oil, gasoline, and many other solvents. " Does It All " comes in a wide range of colors, so the chances of matching your surface is better than ever - each color has dozens of potential applications. Shipping price varies with container size. 30 oz. tubes available only in packages of 6. Product does contain fungicides " Take a look and perhaps it will work for you. Course I have no commercial interest in this company. Rosie Re: [] Re: Mold and Illness-Rhonda Sorry I am behind on replys, I have been suffering horrific headaches..... Has microbial stuff that mold and bacteria won't grow.RC>>> Rhonda is the DAP 100% silicone? Also the way it's applied is critical. All old caulk must be removed. The area must be clean and totally dry before you apply the new caulk and then allow to set well before getting wet. Proper application really matters to ensure a long " life " of the caulk. Guest guest
Tazin, Have you tried piracetam? It has helped me a lot with mold headaches. Your mileage may vary, but I would definitely give it a try. Take it with choline and B5. Recently, I've noticed papers on PubMed mentioning that piracetam helps headaches.. so this ability is finally being looked at by the medical community.. > From: [mailto: ] > On Behalf Of Tazin Round > Sent: Friday, February 10, 2006 3:17 AM > > Subject: Re: [] Re: Mold and Illness-Rhonda > > Sorry I am behind on replys, I have been suffering horrific headaches..... > Unless someone tells me otherwise a better product I highly recoment the > later recommended of the silicone II. Guest guest
Hi Rhonda, Reading your posts brings back all my memories of almost going through a very similar thing with my condo in RI. I think it is good that you write...and at least vent all the frustrations (to say the least) of going through an ordeal like this. And you are very funny too! Although I know it is not funny, it is a good sign that you can keep a sense of humor. I know what you mean about dark, dark colors, mold, etc. I think that is why I had a need to move to the Florida sunshine and surround myself with bright colors. I am impressed with all the progress you have made! Are you feeling any better or too stressed out to tell? Guest guest
Rhonda, I really understand your frustration. I really do. My freinds have all disapeared along with my wife and everything else. I have some help from my parents but it is getting scarce as ther days go on.. I don't know where you live but If I could help you with your repairs I really would, I understand what it is like to feel like you are on your own. Did you get my post to you about the superwash. I had one of those and the bucket really did not hold all the water especially if I had a super load of cloths in it (Which I thought this is what it was designed for) Sometimes if you call a local church you might be able to find someone willing to interceed and give you a hand. (all be it few and far between) Just food for thought. Keep your head up as hard as it may be. Chris... Guest guest
Ok, here is the info on the silicone I have been speaking of: It is GE, yes genral electric Silicone II 100% Silicone sealant. Ot is in gold and red tubes and carries a lifetime warranty It says on the tube you can get information at www.AskGESA.com The tube I have hear is a kitchen and bath sealant. I have used it alot for many different things and has been worth its weight in gold. It does have a low oder at first so try a little first incase you might be sensative to it but it goes away as it dries. Hope this helps. Chris... jill1313 <jenbooks13@...> wrote: THere must be different types of silicone. I don't have a mold problem, but was trying to soundproof because of construction noise and the guy used Dap Dow Corning silicone and it is toxic as hell. I mean, the most toxic chemical I've ever encountered. I got extremely dizzy when he started using it. IT also stinks to high heaven. There must be bad solvents in it. ALl my bedding and everything in the room absorbed it, and it never really cured, stank weeks later, and it had to all be removed and even so, washing everything multiple times, some things still smelled of it. There probably are good silicones, like, I read afterwards that there are silicones for aquariums. Those must be fairly healthy. > FAIR USE NOTICE:
Guest guest
Laging in replies again, I know.. No I have never heard of it. Is it a perscription? and what is Choline?
