BAKERSFIELD - The locally based Valley Fever Vaccine project is

$100,000 dollars closer to finding a way to prevent the crippling

and potentially deadly disease in Kern County.

On Tuesday, at the Kern Medical Center's Valley Fever Clinic, Dr.

Hans Einstein, on the behalf of Valley Fever Americas Foundation,

accepted a $100,000 check from Aera Energy.

The company made the donation in hopes of some day finding a cure.

Valley Fever is an airborne lung infection caused by fungus spores.

The disease is particularly dangerous because many people who get it

don't even know they have it until it's too late.
