Sexy musky-vanilla scent blend?

Hey, can any of you help me out with putting together a simple but kinda

sexy scent? I have a gallon jug of body spray base that I'm dying to put to

good use. I made my first body spray with it last night for DH (just used

the Cool Water scent -- really like it!), and now I'm jealous! I want to

make something for myself.

I would like to make something kinda musky-vanilla, if you know what I mean.

I have a luscious-smelling vanilla spray-on lotion (alas, not homemade -- by

St. Ives -- really cheap, but I like it a lot). I'd like to make something

that doesn't clash terribly with that. Plain vanilla smells too sweetsy,

though. I have quite a collection of FOs and EOs, but very little

experience with blending. Was hoping to at least mix more than 1 scent into

it so I feel more like I'm actually " making " something :-) Didn't know if

it would be as simple as musk + vanilla?

DH is highly suspicious of homemade anything -- how could he possibly be my

DH?? I don't know if he'll ever even touch the body spray I made, even

though it smells wonderful (tested it on myself last night!) He came from a

seriously snobby brand-name only family (sheesh!), and thinks if make stuff

at home, it's to be cheap. (I've got some SERIOUS educating to do with

him!) We're going out to dinner tomorrow night, and I'd like to smell yummy

so that when he comments on it, I can say " Thank you, it's HOMEMADE! "

TIA,

,

If it's not too late, check the archives and see if any of Cat's emails with

recipes are there. She has this awesome nose and equally awesome talent for

scents (especially the sexy kind) and has been very generous sharing her

knowledge with us.

If not, let me know and I will try to find some of them for you from my

archives.

I made a romantic dream balm one year for christmas and just scented it

with the essential oils of sandalwood and ylang ylang, I absolutely love how

it smells and everyone I gave it to loved it. I think I used equal parts

sandalwood and ylang ylang, or maybe a bit more sandalwood because the ylang

ylang can be quite overpowering.

Hi :

You might try adding a (very) small amount of patchouli to the musk/vanilla

blend to lessen the sweetness of the mixture:

3 drops vanilla f.o.

1-2 drops musk f.o.

1 drop patchouli e.o.

Sandalwood blends well with vanilla:

2-3 drops vanilla f.o.

1 drop musk f.o.

1 drop sandalwood e.o.

This is a sweet " Vanilla Musk " :

6 drops vanilla f.o.

4-5 drops musk f.o.

Separately, mix together:

1 drop jasmine f.o.

1 drop tuberose f.o.

1 drop ambergris f.o.

1 drop sandalwood e.o.

Add 1-2 drops of this to the vanilla/musk blend.

Here is one I adapted from an old perfume formulary:

Ambre (dry, sensual)

4 drops musk f.o.

4 drops vanilla f.o.

4 drops ambergris f.o. (not amber f.o.)

If desired, 1-2 drops rose or jasmine f.o. can be added for a subtle, floral

scent

(Once you have your blend, " drops " can be converted into " parts " to make

larger quantities.)

Please let me know how it turns out! :-)

Cat--I cannot tell you the thrill I felt when you sent these blends!!! I

felt like my instinct about what to blend for a vanilla musk was

validated by a real expert!!! It might seem silly, but it means a lot to

a total beginner , like me!-- Colleen

Happy Trails....

Oh, yippee! Thank you so much, Cat -- I can't wait to give one (or all!) of

these a try. And thank you to everyone who replied. I'm very new at this

and don't know the attributes of very many scents yet, so I'm a little lost.

I'm so excited about this -- I can't wait to let DH catch a whiff. Maybe he

won't be afraid of his Cool Water spray anymore :-)

Hi :)

I cracked up reading your post :) I think some amber would do the perfect

job for you. A good amber is so sexy and very nice even by itself :) ( get

mine from Royal Aromatics)

As to your DH, girl in the future don't tell him its homemade...say its

" custom made " hehe. That will appeal to the " other side " him ;)
