Guest guest
Hi Fletch, I have been a patient of Dr. Shoemaker's since Dec. 17, 2003. I was a teacher for 14 yrs. at the same school. For a few yrs. I had horrible sinus problems, post nasal drip, coughing, bronchitis, laryngitis, allergies, etc. I was going to the Dr. almost every month & finally had to get allergy shots. In June of 2002 I had chest tightness, shortness of breath, rapid heart beat, dizziness and was taken to the ER. After many tests, including a heart cath, I was told my heart was in excellent condition. I was given antidepressents for anxiety!! Then I started having joint/muscle pain, terrible stiffness, blinding headaches, debilitating fatigue, muscle twitches, stabbing pains in my legs, itchy crawley skin, blurred vision, slurred speech, memory loss, confusion, excessive thirst and a whole lot more.My joint/muscle pain was so bad I was limping and I couldn't even squeeze toothpaste or hold a pencil. Test after test was negative. Family Dr. said it must be a virus so I started my own research which finally led to Dr. Shoemaker. I took the CSM 4X a day for about a yr. , I also had an elevated C3a which dropped in half with Zocor. I also take Trental for circulation. For about a yr. now I only take a maintenance dose of CSM 2X a day unless I get a hit from a new place, I've gone into, then it's up to 4X a day for a week. All my symptoms are gone except I still get tired by late afternoon if I've done too much and my short term memory is not the best. Since leaving the toxic dump they call a school I haven't had one sore throat, sincus problem, cough, sneeze, not even a common cold!!!!! No antidepressents, no allergy pills or shots, hardly ever take a tylenol which I was taking at least 3X a day while at school. Hope that helps!! Any other questions just let me know, I'll be happy to help. Sue land Hi Group, If you don't mind, I would like to hear how things are going for those on Dr.Shoemaker's protocols, especially those with asthma. Are any here on Avenda or Actos along with the CSM? Why did Dr.Shoemaker switch from Avenda to Actos? Did these drug make the weight go down? Are any here on Avenda or Actos along with the CSM? Why did Dr.Shoemaker switch from Avenda to Actos? Did these drug make the weight go down? Is the Actos a short term or long term drug? From Mold Warriors, it appears that CSM can be long term if one keeps going into a moldy place. I remember there was a lady who took her two young children to Dr.Shoemaker, if you are here, how is it going with them? Thanks, Fletch
Guest guest
My son and I both have toxic mold exposure and are on CSM three times a day. It has helped a lot with the chronic fatigue, migraines, digestion problems, and breathing. We are no longer on asthma meds. which really didn't help anyway. We also have followed his diet plan of basically meats, vegs. and fruits which has with weight problems and has gotten rid of the bloating issues. I tried Actos but had a reaction so have discontinued it. I am considering going back to land to do the next protocol of Procrit for two weeks because my C4a are so high. My son is too young to take advantage of this protocol. CSM will probably be a long term treatment for us. He is also treating me for antibiotic resistant staph. I would like to connect with others on this site who have already tried Procrit with him and who have the staph issues to deal with. > > > > __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Christi & Fletch, Boy, where do I start. It's only been about 3 months now since my wife started Dr.S's protocol and a quick overall evaulation. I'm very pleased. But we know we have a long way to go. Fletch, my wife was not diagnosed with asthma, but she was diagnosed with COPD, RADS, Interstitial lung disease & HP. Really what is the difference between all of these, who knows, they are all so closely related. The CSM she was on for 2 months, 4 x's a day without any side effects, for except one nasty burp. That does seem to help after taking. (this I've heard from other patients also.) She never experienced the constipation, as a matter of fact it helped regulate her, so no problems at that end. The CSM did help with the CFS, fibro and some headpain and no more swelling of the lymph nodes. At least they are not as severe as what they were and it has also helped her sleep at nite. Also the spasms/tremors (like sticking your finger in an outlet, total body.) that she experienced at night have subsided. I sleep better now too. lol She on 2 weeks of taking the antibodics for the two staph infections that she has. Side effects, discoloration of the urine (this is normal for one of the antibodics, it's orange, some call it red.) and a loose stool. The next step will be the procrit for the high levels of C3a & C4a among other levels that were high. So that is where we are at right now and hopefully things will continue in a positive direction. But just like this and any other protocol it will take time. Not all the symptoms have disappeared, but it has taken the peak off of many of them. The very high and low barametric pressure does still affect her, hopefully that will change. She could put some of these weathermen to shame as far as knowing when a front comes in. So I am pleased with the positive results so far. The main thing to remember on any protocol, you didn't get sick over night, you aren't going to get better over time. Hope this helps, KC > > My son and I both have toxic mold exposure and are on > CSM three times a day. It has helped a lot with the > chronic fatigue, migraines, digestion problems, and > breathing. Guest guest
Hi We just visited Dr.S last week so obviously we have not even started the CSM yet. But just wanted to let KC and others know how our appt went. I was telling someone that Dr.S is a REAL doctor. By that I mean he really cares, wants to help by looking at several relevant issues, knowledgeable and intelligent. We have seen about 15 docs so far and I had to pay them to educate them and still they couldn't help. Dr.S drew blood from me and my husband as I am 'multisusceptible' and my husband is 'mold susceptible'. The appt was only supposed to be for my 8 year old son who is 'mold susceptible'. He wants to help our whole family. I really feel that we are going to get some answers for the first time. I failed the VCS and my husband passed. Dr.S said my son's problems are definitely due to lyme and coinfections that he has and is compounded by mold issues. I will keep the group posted on how my son and I do on CSM. Thanks Jay tigerpaw2c <tigerpaw2c@...> wrote: Christi & Fletch, Boy, where do I start. It's only been about 3 months now since my wife started Dr.S's protocol and a quick overall evaulation. Guest guest
Hi, Christi: I'm Chris's (Tazinround) dad and he showed me your e-mail. I had a battle with MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staph infection) from August until early mid-December. I actually contracted it when I took my wife to the hospital for an esophogeal procedure. Of course, I didn't know this at the time. About two days later I came down with what I thought was a cold or the flu. I was really stuffed up and had severe headaches. Shortly after that I started getting " bumps, " like small flea bites, on my legs. I didn't connect the two and didn't know any better anyway. I scratched the " bumps " and didn't think much more about it - other than the fact that they persisted for a couple more days. Within a 1 to 1 1/2 weeks after my initial exposure the stuffiness didn't go away and I developed a boil on the inside of my right thigh near my groin area. I didn't think much of it at the time because I've had a few cysts and boils throughout my life so I just self-medicated - for a while. It soon became apparent, when the boil was the size of a golf ball, that I needed to go to the doctor. I allowed the PA who worked for my doctor to look at it and he knew immediately what it was - MRSA. He works often in the ER and had been seeing 2 or 3 of these a day. He opened it - which wasn't a fun procedure since the novacaine (or whateve they were injecting) didn't really affect the area he had to cut. The abscess fluid apparently blocks the deadening effect and I felt every bit of the cut. It started numbing when a lot of the fluid drained out. At any rate, he gave some strong antibiotics (can't remember which one right now) and took a culture. But for some reason I omitted telling him about another abscess that was developing in my left armpit. I went back the next day and my regular doctor excised that one. He actually said " gross " when he opened it! I was to come back in 3 or 4 days. Things seemed to clear up with the antibiotics but about 3 weeks later another one developed on the underside of my left forearm - on Friday, of course. I called my doctor about 3:00 pm and he prescribed some more antibiotics and told me to go to the ER if it kept swelling. I went at 5:00 that afternoon. I had to go through the same procedure again. The ER doctor must have injected novacaine in 15 different spots around the abscess but it still didn't take effect until he cut it open! I was also developing another one but it wasn't very big so we let it go for the time being. I went to another family physician (mine was no longer available - but that's another story) and he took a culture himself. By Friday afternoon I was taking 1,000 mg of Vancomycin intravenously, and I would have to do it once a day for 10 days. Thankfully, my insurance covered a nurse coming to the house to set things up and check on my progress daily. We changed the location of the catheter a couple of times and apparently I didn't have some of the bad side-effects that other people have with this drug. It's pretty caustic on the veins! I finished the 10-day medication and was doing ok - until another 3 weeks went by. My doctor sent me to a surgeon first to see about opening up all of the abscesses and insureing they were cleaned out sufficiently. The surgeon said he had been dealing with so many of these lately (almost epidemic here in Montgomery, AL) that it was a waste of time. He sent me to an Infectious Disease specialist who put me on a larger dose of the antibiotic I was taking before the Vancomycin. That seemed to do the trick because I haven't had any reoccurrences since then. I can truly sympathize with anyone having to go through that procedure. And now is having a severe problem with the mold infestation - which I'm sure he's already mentioned on this message board. One thing I learned is to keep a bottle of GermX around and to wash my hands often. Oh, by the way. The stuffiness was caused by the staph. It seems that the bacteria likes to colonize in the sinus cavity. I'm still stuffed up so I wonder whether it's allergies - or if the staph hasn't really gone away. Good luck to you and your family in your fight with the mold and staph. I'll keep you in my prayers. Sincerely, Tom C. Guest guest
This is very encouraging. Its a shame more doctors aren't involved with this. I managed to get my doctor to put me on CSM, and its helped me quite a bit, but I am still being exposed, and determining the next step seems to be profoundly dependent on massive testing I can't seem to get their approval for.. Any pointers? I can't afford to travel to MD like so many people here.
Guest guest
I've been seeing shoemaker for about 6 months - did the whole 4x a day thing; helped a lot with most of my symptoms however chronic fatigue, constant urination, sinus pressure and congestion remain. Even got a new symptom later (arthritis pain in knees - i'm only 26). tried the actos and zocor; shoemaker swore by the actos as helping with fatigue; didn't work. i'm about to start the procrit soon for the fatigue. i live about 4 hours from shoemaker, but my GP is very open to learning about the whole mold thing and shoemaker's treatment. that helps incredibly because i can get blood tests through him that shoe wants and he can now help interpret it. i gave him a copy of chapter 4 from shoe's " Mold Warriors " which explains a lot of the science of what happens, which really helped him get involved and understand. (shoe eventually gave me a copy of the book for him - he's very generous, though his god-complex comes raging through if you ask him intelligent medical question about some of his treatment and why it wasn't working.) so, i think if your doctor is open enough to prescibe csm, you might consider asking him to read at least chapter 4 of mold warriors. it's very helpful even for us who are sick - it took me about 4 reads to understand it. (you need to get out of exposure as soon as possible or you'll never get well) --- In , LiveSimply <quackadillian@...> wrote: > > This is very encouraging. Guest guest
I saw Shoemaker in June of 2005, and the cholestyramine is the best thing to happen to me. I still have some arthritis-like symptoms, but it is not nearly what it was. My MSH has come up a little (from < 8 (or less than 8) to 12). Hopefully, it will come up some more. fletch_82000 <fletch_8@...> wrote: Hi Group, If you don't mind, I would like to hear how things are going for those on Dr.Shoemaker's protocols, especially those with asthma. Guest guest
Fletch, You asked, <I remember there was a lady who took her two young children to <Dr.Shoemaker, if you are here, how is it going with them? That would me, I assume. With respect to all of you and Dr. Shoemaker, all I can say at this time is the kids had to stop the CSM shortly after starting it. It made them VERY sick. There are tons of things that make them sick especially my daughter. 2 weeks ago after being admitted once again to the hospital, and after much insistence we had cat scans of her stomach area done. They found several conditions, and she will not be able to return to the CSM, my son is up next for the scans also. So for us now, the meds are not an option for her (or for him) as her condition cannot take them. We have modified their diets and are restricting alot of things to control it, and so far so good. I am happy to hear that it works for many of you. It is so wonderful that some of you can get relief and feel better. As usual our prayers are with all of you. Guest guest
Sue, I know how you feel.....I pretty much had to do my own research about mold. I found out about Dr.Shoemaker and his protocol and got my Infectious Disease doc to prescribe CSM, even though he thinks Dr.Shoemaker is insane with his ideas on mold. The CSM has helped me alot but I know I have a long way to go yet. I have all the same symtoms you have and some you have not mentioned and even went to the ER with chest pains on 9/26/05. My BP was only 51/33 and I had been taking BP meds for high BP. ( which I did not have to do until the mold exposure.) My heart goes out to you and I hope that you get to feeling a lot better. I can not afford to see Dr.Shoemaker but I am trying to follow his diet and take the CSM and hope for the best. Was your IgG low or what? Has anyone else had a problem with their Immune System being real low? Marcie ssr3351@... wrote: Hi Fletch, I have been a patient of Dr. Shoemaker's since Dec. 17, 2003. Guest guest
Sue, I'm a little west of DC in northern virginia. in regards to the immune system, i don't know what the levels are, but my immune system has been shot. when i get a cold it can last 3 weeks and i can't get out of bed for the first couple of days. i'm doing a lot of herbal all natural stuff for it; plus supplements; i've also started juicing fruits and veg which helps with building up the immune system and cleanse the body of toxins. a note on csm, a few doctors have told me and i've found through my own research, that csm not only binds toxins, it also binds vitamins and nutrients from the body - which of course is necessary for our bodies to function properly and why it makes your hair fall out. one doctor told me all other meds or supplements should be taken 4 hours away from csm; when taking it 4 times a day that's impossible and i might as well flush everything else down the toilet. > > Hi Fletch, > I have been a patient of Dr. Shoemaker's since Dec. 17, 2003. Guest guest
Jack, Sorry you may have had a problem with the CSM or for that fact Dr.Shoemaker, in reference to your God-like comment. Sometimes when Dr.Shoemaker explains some of the biotoxin pathway it can seem like he is not fully answering, when the reality is, he is putting it into terms that makes sense to him, hoping you will understand. It's hard to simply some things without it going over our heads. He does not have the answer to all the questions or the symptoms you may be experiencing. But he is the only one that has answered the majority with a positive results in the end. Yes, CSM can bind other nutrients as well as the toxins, but your other doctors are mistaken as far as the timeframe. One hour before taking the CSM or one hour after. This way neither will interfere with the other. Same with eating meals and using CSM. What doctors? Who? I'm in touch with many and not one protocol fits all. Even Dr.Shoemaker will state that this may not work for all patients. The side effects of CSM, constipation and whatever, sure beats in my mind, continuously taking strong antifungals, that can destroy the liver, kidneys and can compromise your immune, more than it is already. These are not the answer either, it is only a piece of the puzzle. I've talked to many, many patients of Dr.Shoemaker's (and others that are using CSM in their protocol) and not one has ever mentioned about the hair loss. I do know that these toxins have caused hair loss and/or thinning in many people, but not one has mentioned this being a side effect of taking the CSM. Unfortunately, there are alot of doctors who will follow the protocol, somewhat, and not fully understand what is happening and interpet it their own way. As far as the effects of CSM and what it can bind, I know it was mentioned on a popular website and now the listowner has changed their opinion and highly recommends it.That person and myself have discussed it in great detail. I guess, really in the long run, you have to take alittle of the bad along with the good and find out what works for you. If Dr.S. or any other doctor helps my wife to recover enough to live a somewhat " normal " life, I don't care if they have a God complex or not. I will be the last one that you will every find to bash environmental doctors on an open forum that are going above and beyond all the others who refuse to come out of their box to help their patients that everyone else refuses to address. Not to mention all the pressure behind the scenes to stop diagnosing and treating this condition. It's a daily fight for them and each and everyone deserves our respect, admiration and support. Including the labs that are taking alot of heat for doing these type of blood panels and are threatened constantly with shutting them down. You also have to remember there is NO doctor out there that has the silver bullet of a complete cure, nor a quick fix. If there is, then I want to speak to him/her, knowing what I know now, if a doctor ever made this claim of a complete cure, you'd only see my shadow 'cause I'd be out the door fast. Because it would be a load of b...... KC > > > > Hi Fletch, > > I have been a patient of Dr. Shoemaker's since Dec. 17, 2003. I > was a > > teacher for 14 yrs. at the same school. For a few yrs. Guest guest
Actually, the first comment my husband made after coming out of Dr.S's office was 'He does not seem to have an ego though he is so popular whereas many docs we have seen had an attitude for no reason'. We were so satisfied at the end of the appt which we have never experienced with ANY of the docs we have seen so far in the last 8 years. Just wanted to mention that. Jay tigerpaw2c <tigerpaw2c@...> wrote: Jack, Sorry you may have had a problem with the CSM or for that fact Dr.Shoemaker, in reference to your God-like comment. Guest guest
KC, thank you for your comments; i did not want to make it seem i wasn't grateful for what shoemaker does for everyone and has done for me. i have been helped greatly with csm besides the side effects; i take it only when i deperately need it, mostly when inflammation, black dots or brain fog kicks in - average about once a day; like jay, i too thought the exact same thing after my first visit, however as the treatments and appt's continued with shoe, and the more i learned and began to speak on his scientific/biological level and ask questions, the more defensive he got. he seems better at putting it into laymen's terms but doesn't like it when the patient really understands and asks questions to learn more or figure what is really going on. Personality conflicts aside, my goal is not to bash him; i am still being treated by him; as you say, no one has the cure - yet - but he certainly knows more than most, at least more than the 18 others i've seen (and that may even justify him having a god-complex); however, what troubles me is that he is portrayed as the cure (in all my " pro-shoemaker " research) - it's even more troublesome that he won't admit he doesn't know some things. Guest guest
, I am not suggesting in any way that you shouldn't go to a doctor, but you may want to ask your doctor about other alternatives that work similarly to CSM if it didn't work out. For example, I know that activated charcoal also 'adsorbs' mycotoxins out of the gut in some situations. Activated charcoal is also nonprescription, available at any big drugstore in capsule form. I would guess that he/she would probably want you to take it several times a day? I don't know. Its capacity to 'adsorb' (or whatever) various toxicants varies but in general it appears to be pretty good at it,compared to other adsorbents, although from what I can tell, cholestyramine seems substantially better. There is also another cholesterol-lowering drug that Dr. Shoemaker uses but I forget its name. Its supposedly gentler on the stomach, BTW. Ask your doctor to call him, he would probably be glad to share that info.
Guest guest
i'm pretty sure the other toxin binding one he uses is called wellbutrin. it's supposed to be not as harsh as csm. --- In , LiveSimply <quackadillian@...> wrote: > > , I am not suggesting in any way that you shouldn't go to a doctor, but > you may want to ask your doctor about other alternatives that work similarly > to CSM if it didn't work out. > > For example, I know that activated charcoal also 'adsorbs' mycotoxins out of > the gut in some situations. Guest guest
Yes, I had hair loss from mold, but now my hair seems to have gotten fuller- with CSM for almost a year > > > > > > Hi Fletch, > > > I have been a patient of Dr. Shoemaker's since Dec. 17, 2003. Guest guest
That can't be it.. wellbutrin is an antidepressant.. Maybe 'welchol' or something like that? That sounds right... I am sure that his patients here could clarify..
