Hi Gail,

Yes, the OCD roller coaster is tough for me too. One thing I try to do with

Kelsey at bedtime is remind both of us about the positives during the

dayŠthe times she resisted when it was difficult, the progress she's making

with the CBT. It leaves us both on a positive note at the end of the

dayŠeven if it was rough day overall. I think it's a long and bumpy road to

recovery, but you sound like you're moving in the right direction so keep

the faith!. We just have to take it one day at a time.

I agree that it's important to find a calm, enjoyable activity that you can

do togetherŠjust to affirm a positive connection between you in between all

the stress and frustration. One of Kelsey's favorite things to do is go on

a " night walk " , just the two of us. It's dark and peaceful and quiet and

feels " special. "

I've noticed too that just when I'm feeling most discouraged, a pretty good

day is just around the corner! I bet yours is too :)

Take care,

in S.D.

Hi Gail,

I read your post with interest and wanted to respond. I have an eight year

old daughter who suffers with ocd and Tourette syndrome. The ocd is, by far,

the most troubling for her at this time.

We began medication (luvox) last summer, and it took a couple of months

before we found the right dosage; however she has made great strides for the

past seven or eight months. To date we have been unsuccessful in finding a

therapist familiar with cbt, but we have worked through some issues on our

own. She has been fabulous at school and at home. Not " cured, " but very

manageable....

However, she, like your daughter, has recently had some difficulties flair up

again. I really am not ready to " up " her luvox dosage, as it makes her

extremely tired at high dosages.

We spoke to her child psych yesterday, as she had her scheduled appt, and he

mentioned that this is usually the time of year that tends to be most

stressful for everyone. The school year is winding up, and on top of having

all of those loose ends to tie up at school, the kids can't wait for summer

to get here.

If the kids are in any type of extracurricular activities, these, activities

too, are usually coming to a close, and trying to " cram " a lot. It just

seems that there is a lot of pressure on the kids at this time of year, that

isn't the norm.

I don't know if this might be the case with your daughter, but it certainly

rang true in our home. We have decided to wait until May is over, and see

where the " dust settles " to do anything drastic with her medication. That

is, providing that we manage to keep it together until then. : )

Just thought I should mention this in case it can give you some hope that

things might return to " normal " soon. (whatever that is!!!)

Best of luck to both of you!

Kim

Kim I also have a 9 yr.old son with ts and ocd.His tics are pretty well

under control too.The ocd issues are what we are trying to deal with. You

wrote you are looking for a cbt but your daughter already sees a child

psychologist?? Why both? what is best to start with? I am having a hard time

trying to find someone for Jordan.I can't distinguish if he just needs to

talk and vent or learn specific answers to specific behaviors.I have a list

from ocd and ts and ins.co. Anybody able to shed some light for me would be

soooo appreciated.Regards,Hope
