Guest guest
This whole mold nightmare is absolutley frightening and only getting worse by the day!!! It's the year 2006 people are getting sicker and no one knows why!! It's like a King movie in slow motion and out of control BUT with very real consequences!!!!!!! Can you imagine what the next generation is going to be like?!! Sue > A new home is plagued by mold< As I described with my " mold educated " friend who toured new homes, some not yet even finished up north of Reno, these things are moldy right down to the frames: " Couldn't live here if you GAVE it to me " . Guest guest
A new home is plagued by mold Smart Money by Bruce http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article? AID=/20060131/BIZ/601310338/1001 DEAR BRUCE: We bought a new construction home and had a home inspection and mold was found. Blue mold on the ground, black mold on the floor joists. Our realtor got a copy of the report. The proposed remedy by the home inspector, realtor and builder was a final grade to prevent water from pooling under the home. Money was put into escrow for the grading work. Three months have elapsed and the final grade has been done. Now the mold appears much worse. The builder proposes spraying and wiping before utilizing environmental firms services. Would you engage an outside firm now or should we consult an attorney? - M.B., via e-mail DEAR M.B.: Should you consult an attorney? You've got to be kidding. Hopefully, you had an attorney represent you in this matter before you purchased the home. It appears that you didn't. If there's not enough money set aside, I'm not sure where you're going to go with this. Hopefully, the builder is ethical, but to purchase a place with a mold problem would be the height of foolishness. I cannot believe that you did this under the guidance of an attorney. I would get an outside firm that specializes in mold. It's only going to get worse. What your builder is suggesting is a Band-Aid approach. It's definitely in his best interest, but certainly not in yours. Unfortunately, mold problems seem to do nothing but get worse unless they're properly treated. If you were represented by counsel, and I hope you were, immediately turn this matter over to them. Send your questions to: Bruce , c/o The Cincinnati Post, 125 E. I spoke with contractors several years ago and they said " It's not our fault. The wood is not what it used to be. We have to work with what we've got, and it's just impossible to get good kiln dried wood the way it used to be. We're just doing our jobs " . Imagine all those brand new mold castles out there. Imagine living next to them. Imagine living downwind of an entire neighborhood of them. Nobody said this was going to be easy. -
