Guest guest
Hi all, I have a question for those of you with experience with young children and CBT. My daughter's therapist says she wants to construct the fear hierarchy, but won't for now since my daughter is not able to distinguish between " easier " and " harder " obsessions and compulsions. I believe this is true, my daughter has repeatedly said that they're *all* bad and she wants them *all* gone. During their session today, the therapist helped and reminded my daughter to boss back compulsions as they happened during the session. Her homework is to continue bossing back compulsions randomly as they occur. I wonder if this problem means she is too young to benefit from CBT after all. I thought the idea was to get some easy victories to begin with, gaining confidence to attack the harder things later, in a step fashion. Do you think this can work this way? Or should I discontinue therapy until she's a little older or seems better able to rank her obsessions and compulsions? Thanks, Kathy R.
