Guest guest
Dear Lana, The way things are going in New York, right now, it would be no surprise if the NY Medical Board were after him. They keep coming after Dr.s such as Atkins, Levin, and other Dr.s that use complimentary protocols. Unfortunately, it is Dr.s' such as you describe who are their primary targets. Guest guest
I have a wonderful complementary doctor (DO) in New York, who spends 1 1/2 to 2 hours with his patients on their first visit, never hurries, always listens, does vitamin IV's, chelation and H2O2 as well as acupuncture, charges very reasonable rates (especially for NY) and often calls patients at home or work with lab results. I was there this week and he told me that he had to let one of his nursing staff go because he was " economizing. " Patients have really fallen off for the summer. It breaks my heart that he is not doing as well, while some of the big names like Atkins and Ash who have enormous client bases and run something akin to complementary medicine factories are raking in enormous profits. I'm not saying that they don't help people. Ash turned my health around, but there are a few doctors out there who are not in it for the money, and they just don't do seem to do well from a business standpoint. This bothers me, because I want to see them succeed. Lana > It would be nice if patients would encourage the doctor > who gives quality care at affordable prices. Guest guest
New York is extremely liberal when it comes to the practice of alternative or complementary medicine in comparison to most other states. Problems often arise when some of these " alternative " procedures, i.e. vitamin IV's are billed to insurance. Some doctors will do this and others won't even dare. My doctor tries to keep an EXTREMELY low profile, while Atkins has protected himself in the past by being very vocal. As soon as there's a whiff of trouble, he gets on the radio and starts getting patients and other supporters to campaign in his favour. This works well because of his broad patient base, large readership of his books and listeners of his radio program. I remember reading something a few years back about a man who had reached the point of being legally blind. His insurance company had spent vast sums of money on procedures that hadn't done a thing to save his sight--I believe it was a six figure sum. He successfully restored his sight in one eye, and most of the sight in his other eye through alternative medicine. Total cost was somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,000-$8,000, of which the insurance company would not pay a single penny for " unproven procedures. " I'd say that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, but the mere fact that he could once again see did nothing to convince them. I guess they saw that as irrelevant information. Guest guest
Dear Lana, others, Here in Syracuse Ny we have several other Doctors that are under the gun... so to speak... they use complementary medicine and allopathic also... or are willing to work with the two... and they are seeing similar challenges. I suspect they go after them rather than Atkins and other that are making big profits is that they can afford quite a law firm. The Medical review board in NY looks like they don't answer to anybody... though I think they do...and some folks might argue their case with Votes and / or class action suits and maybe room for civil right suits here too! I unfortunately or fortunately... you get what you deserve??? What I am saying is any group that is suffering some indignation such as high taxes or oppessive choice of medical healing modlities... maybe we have it comming to us??? Why??? Well if you don't get out there and lobby... vote a different model of politicians... thennn...you are keeping on what your doing or not doing and you get... what your getting!!! We have become a passive group of people... I protest in little ways with bussiness... if I am in line buying something and the phone rings.. and the clerk serves that person via phone the phone I say... finish with me please and if I don't really need what I was planning on purchasing... I leave! Can't blame the clerk... they have their orders too! One clerk said to phone customer " Call back please, I am with a customer! " No Prompting from me and as it should be. Gas station, use credit card for quick fillup , get away. no paper recipt... have to go in and there is a line... I complain (politely) and state my case ! So this soap box is high... but.. want to instigate, motivate some people from time to time to say... Your voice / pen / internet keyboard counts... is a power tool. If you read this far... thank being patient and not hitting delete key... Yet! Thanks Mike Slivinski - Re: Affordable doctors Dear Lana, The way things are going in New York, right now, it would be no surprise if the NY Medical Board were after him.
