Can we please change the Subject line to " people " rather than " men. "

Men may react differently than women to different exposures - which

is true for most of us anyway, but suicide is not limited to men. 2

of the 3 suicides I'm personally familiar with were women. We are all

vulnerable if the impact of chronic illness becomes unbearable.

There is a fairly large body of evidence that one of the ways people

deal with stressful life events is involved with neurogenesis, the

growing of new brain cells. Additionally, when neurogenesis is

inhibited in some way, there is a growing body of evidence that this

causes depression.

Since a number of mycotoxins seem to inhibit the growth of or cause

the death of new cells, this apoptopsis could be a possible cause of

the often-seen depression in mycotoxicosis victims.

Anyway, this may or may not seem interesting to people.. I have a lot

of stuff Ive saved on this neurogenesis issue, I could post it. Its

rapidly becoming a mainstream theory on one putative cause of

depression..

Perhaps it also explains why some neuroprotective agents - like

piracetam, also seem to help some people with depression..
